TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits

TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits include everything you need to tackle epoxy repairs and fiberglass projects. This complete project-ready epoxy kit includes: TotalBoat 5:1 epoxy resin; your choice of either fast or slow TotalBoat hardener; a set of metered mixing pumps, 2 stir sticks, 2 mixing pails, and a pair of latex gloves.

Pumps are color coded to match the resin or hardener cap for convenience. Mix one full pump of hardener to every one full pump of resin. Our calibrated 5:1 pumps ensure a perfect 5:1 mix ratio every time.

System sizes: Group Size A = Quart Kit; Group Size B = Gallon Kit

Note: Don't need the pumps, gloves, stir sticks, or mixing cups? Gallon size kits are also available with just resin & hardener included. This 'no frills' version makes sense if you already have TotalBoat pumps and simply need more epoxy.

I use Total Boat epoxy for bonding wood and filler during the restoration of a Harkers Island Net Boat. First time using this product but have had no problems and it performs as well as any of the more expensive epoxies on the market.

I purchased 5:1 epoxy kit with pumps to repair delamination on my Hobie 16. I liked the fact that one pump resin and one pump of the hardener gives you a 5:1 ratio without having to measure. Luckily I did a small test batch to make sure the epoxy would set up correctly. Well, the test batch took over an hour to gel and over 2 hours to harden and still there was oily residue so it seems that it did not set up correctly overall. I then decided to add more hardener with another test batch. Well that batch set up too quickly and with generated alot of heat. Finally I found the right mixture which was 2 pumps of resin with about 1 1/2 pumps of hardener. It set up correctly and hardened within about 15 minutes. I repaired half of my one haul but I don't like the fact that I have to "wing it" to get the proper ratio. I feel like I wasted alot of product and money in having to experiment to get it right. I am not sure if i have faulty pumps or materials. I of course bled the pumps to rid of any air pockets. I could have used the supplied mixing cups but I would much rather make several small batches and avoid the epoxy setting up before I am finished injecting it. It worked great after injecting it into the hull. It is strong stuff and my hull is now rock hard. I could have done without having to experiment to get it right thus wasting product and money.

I've not used the other system but this worked well. Pumps dispensed the resin and hardner well, mix was easy, cure time good and cured resin was as expected.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits:

Used it to bond some 1/2"Divinycell to form benches in an older Dyer 12.5similar to the air bladders in the newer Dyer 12.5's. Stiffened the boat right up and added the necessary buoyancy.

Tried it to test the waters with a new to me TotalBoat line up. I was very impressed and pleased with the product. The ratios are easy to use and the containers are very stable. The slow hardener was predictable and perfect for my use.

Used some low and high density fillers with it and was very pleased with the results. Mahogany Sawdust also worked well for some effective rot repair.

          Kit works great!
Comes complete with stirring sticks and cups as well as the metered pumps. I tried another brand on a project and the blush was awful. This blend seems great and the blush is very limited and sanding is possible in about 1/2 day.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits:

Used this to repair an old, beat up dingy. Much easier to work with than traditional resin. Wets out fiberglass cloth with ease. I am not very good at glass work but this made me look like a pro. Cloth stays where you put it and the product soaks into the cloth easily without much effort making neat repairs. Worked well with micro fiber filler too producing a putty with excellent adhesion quality. The slow set formula allowed adequate working time even under less than ideal conditions, direct warm sun.

Filled large spot in the hull of a sailboat. It had rubbed against the dock during a storm. Worked great. Make sure you measure the ratio. Have plenty of thinner and paper towels. It took a lot of glass filler to get it thick enough.
