TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits

TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits include everything you need to tackle epoxy repairs and fiberglass projects. This complete project-ready epoxy kit includes: TotalBoat 5:1 epoxy resin; your choice of either fast or slow TotalBoat hardener; a set of metered mixing pumps, 2 stir sticks, 2 mixing pails, and a pair of latex gloves.

Pumps are color coded to match the resin or hardener cap for convenience. Mix one full pump of hardener to every one full pump of resin. Our calibrated 5:1 pumps ensure a perfect 5:1 mix ratio every time.

System sizes: Group Size A = Quart Kit; Group Size B = Gallon Kit

Note: Don't need the pumps, gloves, stir sticks, or mixing cups? Gallon size kits are also available with just resin & hardener included. This 'no frills' version makes sense if you already have TotalBoat pumps and simply need more epoxy.

I use Total Boat epoxy for bonding wood and filler during the restoration of a Harkers Island Net Boat. First time using this product but have had no problems and it performs as well as any of the more expensive epoxies on the market.

I bought Total Boat to do a range of boatbuilding and repairs, as well as general woodworking. I expect to give it a thorough tryout.
So far, I have only used it to laminate stems for a small canoe. The first one didn't set at all, my mistake. I didn't get a full pump on the slow hardener, so I did a different mix with the fast hardener, and re-applied and re-assembled. It turned out OK. The second stem came off the mold strong and solid after an overnight set. The third one just de-laminated at the bend, most likely the white oak is so porous that it sucked up all the epoxy. No. 4 is still on the mold, and after 8 hours the epoxy is tacky, slow hardener at 80º F.
I checked the pump output, it's 25ml resin. 5ml hardener. Open time, so far, is much longer than expected. Total Boat sets clear, and is quite strong, just takes a long time to get there. Would more hardener accelerate the reaction? Does anybody know?
At this point, I am not as impressed as I would like to be. And, I would be hesitant to recommend Total Boat to a friend. Still, there's a learning curve with everything. I'm willing to keep trying. Since this is a new product, and Jamestown is pushing it, we could use more customer support.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits:

Works as well or better than West System and you save some money. Mixes easily and blends well with both fumed silica/cabasil as well as microballons. Wets out cloths well and handles well in resisting sags and runs. Cures evenly and sands good also. Really like the plastic containers and the pumps, wouldn't mind being able to get a better price without the accessories when your ordering more, but still a great deal. Will definitely be switching over to total Boat brand and saving money.

I just purchased the total boat epoxy kit and used it to fill holes in the deck of a bristol 40 I am restoring. Works great and I will be using it for other fiberglass hull and deck repairs as well as tabbing in new bulkheads.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits:

I used this as bottom paint for my sailboat,as I added a different pigment for each coat (white, gray, and then black). Came out well, but I recommend that any beginner view some applicable videos. My boat is large and could not be turned upside down. I was surprised by how thin each coat needed to be to avoid running. When properly applied (took awhile), it makes a very nice, smooth finish. I am looking forward to it lasting a long time.

Comments about TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Kits:

The pump system makes mixing virtually foolproof, I used the product with quadraxial mat to repair my beat up 1990 Mastercraft fiberglass trailer fenders. It cured as expected with the slow hardener. The end result is strong and solid and should give me another ten years of service. I ordered the kit which was a decent value but could have included a scraper which I ended up buying when I was unable to locate my old one. I mixed the product outside with a mask on, that being said the fumes were tolerable during the curing when I moved the fender into the garage.

This epoxy seems to be a great value so far. Mixes well and cures consistent. Seems to be a little thicker than West System, but haven't wet out any large areas of cloth to be sure. Less running, like that!
