Interlux Interdeck Polyurethane Non-Skid Deck Coating

Interlux Interdeck Polyurethane Non-Skid Deck Coating is an excellent, easy to apply slip resistant polyurethane finish for decks. Interdeck contains a fine aggregate and will apply easily on all substrates. Interdeck provides a low sheen finish that helps protect against dazzle from sunlight reflected off decks. A tough polyurethane resin protects decks against everyday wear and tear. Interdeck is suitable for all substrates.

In Good Condition: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Wipe a small area with a clean rag that has been wetted with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. While the surface is still wet, wipe with a clean, dry rag. Continue this process until the entire surface has been cleaned. Sand using 180-220 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.

MOLDED IN NON-SKID SURFACES

Scrub with Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 or Solvent Wash 202V using a 3M Doodlebug™ and a maroon Scotch-Brite® pad. Rinse with fresh water.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

In Good Condition: The surface must be clean and dry. Sand with 220-320 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.

In Poor Condition: Remove all previous coatings and prime the substrate.

BARE WOOD

Sand surface, wipe clean. Apply Prekote Primer. Sand surface, wipe clean.

METAL

Use Interprotect 2000E to prime the surface of the prepared metal. See the Interprotect 2000E Technical Datasheet for bare metal preparation guidelines.

CLEAR EPOXY

Clean as for Bare Fiberglass above. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Apply one coat of Epoxy Primekote 404/414.

Sand the primer with 180-220 grade wet or dry paper. Remove dust with a dust wipe. Apply 1-2 coats.

I used Interdeck in accordance with the instructions on the can. I first prepped by sanding, applying Interlux PreKote and waited over the weekend. Then rolled a coat of Interdeck on. With the daytime temps in the 90s, I waited a day for drying as prescribed by the can but it wasn't dry. After 3 days it was still soft in spots. It took a full week for the paint to dry in 90 degree temps. After contacting Interlux, they decided I need to scuff the paint as it may skimmed over too quickly to release some of the solvents. A second coat was required and the drying process was over a week. I'm still not confident if a slid an ice chest across my cockpit that the paint wouldn't come up. If I had it to do over again I would use a two part epoxy paint so that the curing would at least be a chemical process. The one part polyurethane is a risk in my opinion and I would not recommend it. I'll have to wait and see how well the paint holds up but for now I think I would spend the money for a better Interlux product or a different brand.

Comments about Interlux Interdeck Polyurethane Non-Skid Deck Coating:

I cleaned the nonskid on my 1982 Allmand deck with dishwashing detergent. Then I rubbed it down with acetone. I rolled the deck. The paint went down evenly, covering well. The color was consistent and the surface was uniform. I went back a couple of days later, did some touch up and put a second coat on high traffic areas. It looks great. Taping is a problem, of course, but careful work generates great results. I am extremely happy. It dressed my old girl up beautifully.

Comments about Interlux Interdeck Polyurethane Non-Skid Deck Coating:

One quart covered the deck and cockpit of my 17 foot sailboat. Application was easy. Coverage was very good. Durability is not yet known. The white is a bright white but has no glare. This is the flattest flat paint I have used. Once the boat was prepped and the weather looked good, it took about 2 hours to completely paint the deck. The paint covered the embossed non-slip surface easily without filling the embossed portions. I cannot address the durability of the paint since I painted the boat this week.

Used this to renew non skid on a very old (1970 something) sailboat. Went on very easy and looks great. I mixed 1/2 gt of gray with 1/2 qt of white for a lighter gray. No problems.

1 qt only covered 1/2 the insides of a 17' daysailer (Thistle). That was on top of primer. Still, it's good quality paint and a nice no-slip surface. Easy to do.

Bought this inadvertainly as grey paint for the inside of a rowboat. A very good mistake, it has no shine, which make it very good for a long row on a sunny day. Flat finnish is ideal.

I have used Interlux products for many years on an exterior porch deck that was covered with a non-slip fiberglas coating back in 1988. Every 8 to 10 years it needs a refinishing job and I recently applied Interdeck as the finishing system. Product went on perfectly and dried to a finish that looks brand new. The Interlux products really stand up to severe conditions
(bright sunlight @ 6700 ft during the summer followed by 8 to 10 feet of snow every winter).
With a new application of Interdeck, I'm ready for winter #22 !!!

I have spent a fortune on products for my 1978 Catalina 25. I went to the store and told them my problem. My non-skid areas were rusty looking. I had tried to clean them and they weren't coming clean...they were actually worn out. They sold me about $50 of cleaners. None worked. I went back and again said "the non-skid is worn out" so they sold me another product. A non-skid paint. I told them I didn't want a sand-type paint...I wanted the same rubberized coating that was there currently. They assured me it was great and I'd be happy with it. I put a small portion of it on and it was like sand/cement. I wiped it off to find that I just made my boat look 100 times worse. I tried this stuff lastly and it made my 30 year old boat look BRAND NEW! I can't recommend this stuff enough. The only thing I need to find out is how long it lasts. That was a LOT of taping to do for something that may only last a few years.
