Questions & Answers about Sikaflex 201 US All Purpose Flexible Sealant:
2013-05-19ARNOLD BUCHMAN asked: Can this product be used to caulk expansion joints in concrete driveway?
2012-12-11A shopper asked: What is the shelf life on the Silkaflex 201?

2012-10-02ANNE STEGMAN asked: Is Sikaflex 201 All Purpose Sealant good to use in bathrooms around a bathtub? Will it mold or mildew?
+Expand Answers
2012-10-02Dennis Fade: I used Sikaflex 291, a faster cure/marine grade (sealing the upper deck to hull of a boat). But, they're both made from the same base chemical. It was recommended by a person who's used it for years (on boat rub rails and other boat sealing apps.)
He said it doesn't mildew or turn yellow.
I had great results.
2012-10-02DEAN MATCHECK: I don't know. I bought it because it is food-grade sealant and I used it to seal a drinking water tank under the floor of my boat, and hopefully it will never again see the light of day. It should be ok around the bathroom but plenty of other products are too.
2012-10-03ROBERT OLIVER: I use Sikaflex 201 between logs on a log house (outside). It has not molded anywhere that I am aware. I believe there are other sealants that I would prefer for inside bathroom uses.
2012-09-24A shopper asked: What would i use for sealing cracks in our log home?, the logs are red pine.
+Expand Answers
2012-09-24SHMUEL TOMER: I use Woodguard to seal/stain the wood, and I fill the cracks and checks with some extra Woodguard (using a long-nosed mustard bottle). I use Sikaflex to caulk around doors and windows.
2012-09-24BOBBY SHIREMAN: If the cracks do not penetrate to the outside environment I would do nothing. Cracks in logs lend to the rustic appearance we look for and expect in a log home. If the cracks are such as to allow air to enter the inside of the structure I would caulk them with Sikaflex 201 flexible sealant. This product is awesome! Sikaflex will bond to all wood structures the will bend and flex with the structure as it expands and contracts. You simply can't go wrong with Sikaflex 201.
2012-06-17A shopper asked: How do you remove it from carpet?
2012-05-01A shopper asked: Does this work well for concrete drive ways?
+Expand Answers
2012-05-02JAMES DUPPSTADT: I have never attempted to seal masonry with this product. It does adhere well to metal.
2012-05-02PAUL SEDWICK: Sorry, not a clue as to how it works with concrete - 201 works great for teak to FRP flex joints
2012-05-02ROBERT GIBBS: I have found that the Sikalfex will harden on almost everything.
The only problem I have found is that once you open a tube -
it has a very short shelf life. Trying to real seal a tube will not
work.
2012-05-03THOMAS O'DONNELL: No, it's too thick. Use Sikaflex SL. It is made just for concrete driveways and comes in regular or the large 29 oz caulking tube
2012-05-06KARL ROGERS: It's not made for concrete, I use it on my log home
2012-03-09PETE REYNOLDS asked: Is Sikaflex 201 a "dangerous goods" product?
+Expand Answers
2012-03-09Ryan L: It is made with chemicals so there is an MSDS for it located on our site. It does not look like it is listed as a hazardous material with UPS or Fedex.
2012-03-09Pete Reynolds: Thanks Ryan.
2012-03-05A shopper asked: what is curing time?
+Expand Answers
2012-03-06JAMES DUPPSTADT: I was using it during construction of a metal building. It cured slowly enough that it did not skin over before the joints were made up. By the next morning the material was completely cured and the joint was sealed.
2011-12-28A shopper asked: what temp; can this product be used at?
+Expand Answers
2011-12-28DOUGLAS SABBAG: Well, I was using it in Fort Lauderdale in the summer.... so obviously high temperatures are not a problem.
Officially they say:
"Application temperature2 40°F to 110°F"
2011-12-28THERESA CULP: I don't remember the specs on the tube, and I am away from the boat. I should be back to boat in a week or so and I will check then. When I applied it (in an on deck situation) the temperature was about 75 degreesF. as I recall. It has worked great. Boat is located in Arkansas so we get very hot summers (100+) and can be bitter for short times in the winter.
2011-12-29DIRK DE HAAN: We used it for the through-deck connection of the shrouds. It was applied in Nova Scotia and performed well two years later on a trans-Atlantic passage via Newfoundland to Scotland.
I'm not sure what the spec sheet says about the rated temperatures for the product, but where we were was not warm.
Our Outbound boatbuilder uses this product now standard on his builds.
Sika has an excellent website with all kinds of technical application information.
2011-12-29QUINTON RITZ: I applied it on a 85 Degree F day. It has been holding for the last two years with temp extremes of -5 F to 105 F. The area of the country I am in is the Great lakes region.
Hope this answers the question
2011-12-29LEILA DAW: As I recall, it was between 50 & some higher temperature I've forgotten, 50 being the operative temperature for me since I was using it in early spring.
2011-12-28A shopper asked: i was looking to use this to seal my dektite flashing for my woodstove to my metal roof. I get a lot of rain where i live. is is the right choice?
+Expand Answers
2011-12-28SHMUEL TOMER: I am sorry, but I do not know the answer. I used it to caulk around doors and windows in my woodguard-stained log home, and so far it seems to be fine (but it's only been a few weeks).
2011-12-28PAUL BLUM: I don't mind trying to answer questions, but this one is beyond my expertise. I was using Sikaflex 295UV because it can bond plexiglas to fiberglass. I don't know anything about the other properties of this or of 201.
2011-12-28JAMES RIGGD: I used it to seal the windows on my airplane. Unless the flashing gets REAL hot, I would say that it would work quite well. It has good adhesion once it sets up.
2011-12-28ROBERT HOMAN: As long as you are sure that the highest temperature that any part of the Sika 201 is exposed to is less than 190 degrees F. It is intended for use where there is expected "joint movement" or the substrate or attached item will move or expand or contract.
2011-12-28ALLAN JOHNSON: I believe Sikaflex 201 would be a good choice for your application.
2011-12-30NICK MATEJCEK: i used it to hold the windshield on my airplane, it stays flexible and bonds tight, but you need the right primer
2012-01-01Don Gray: I have been using this product for 8-10 years now without a single problem with it. I would recommend it for what you are asking with no reservation what so ever. GREAT product.
2012-01-02BRUCE BROOKS: you should use 3m 5200 on the roof. it will seal and stick to anything.
