Alumacoat SR Antifouling Paint is formulated for safe use on aluminum in either fresh or salt water. Standard antifouling paints load high amounts of copper as active ingredients. This increases the liklihood of corrosion on aluminum hulls. Using Zinc Pyrithione as the active antifouling ingredient, Alumacoat SR resists slime, algae, barnacles and other marine life. It simply employs a less noble metal to do so. The result is an anti-fouling bottom paint that minimizes the risk of corrosion on all aluminum hulls, outdrives and outboard motors in fresh, salt, and brackish water. Alumacoat uses ablative properties combined with the latest biocide technology to minimize coating buildup and keep underwater surfaces smooth and clean. This paint may be hauled and relaunched without recoating.

Electrolysis through sea water quickly corrodes aluminum. This is caused when aluminum is bathed in an ionic solution with dissimilar metals, in effect, simulating a battery. To prevent corrosion, bare aluminum must be covered with a special barrier coat before paint is applied. Epoxy primers such as Aluma Protect 4700/4401 work excellent, followed by 6627 Tie-Coat Primer to assure adhesion of bottom paint.
