I have a teak patio set. I clean and brighten the set at least two times a year and still can not get it back to the way it looked when I first purchased it. I was frustrated and ready to get rid of it until a friend told me about sikkens. After just one coat of Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak, I am in love all over again. The table looks better than the day I bought it and if the continued care is a easy as my friend says, you will have a customer for life. I purchased my products from Jamestown Distributors and was very happy [...]

As a teak oil on bare wood it may work just fine BUT I used DEKS OLJE #1 for years and now that it is discontinued I'm lost. The Cetol does not cover exisiting coats of DEKS OLJE. I only used it once per year on my deck and that new application of DEKS OLJE totally brought the old exiting layers back to life.. . night and day difference. It's like it disolved the old coats and replenished them with new oil. The CETOL just lays there and tries to soak in, doing nothing to enhance the color or finish. Where can I get some DEKS OLJE # 1 ?

Excellent product if you don't want to have to keep using Teak oil every 3 months. Gives old furniture a new look. I recommend you lightly pressure wash furniture so as not to fray wood. If you do fray the wood a 5 min light sanding will do. apply 3 coats using 1/4 paint thinner on first coat to help penetrate the wood.

Our boat has quite a bit of exterior teak-the Admiral is the queen of teak and insists on Cetol
She does 2 coats of natural and a final coat of clear gloss-looks great and lasts better than any other product we have tried even in the Bahamas

Comments about Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak:

The current iteration of this product is working very well for us. It does not add its own color to the wood we use it on and has proved a very durable coating. We've stopped using the "Marine" as it seems to dull the wood's color or maybe fog up is a better descriptor. The Teak looks great on teak as well as mahogany and cherry. We've used it over various stains and it looks great! We put 3 coats of gloss over 3 coats of the teak. This has allowed for a light sanding with 320 grit wet n dry and another maintenance coat of gloss once a year. Some exterior trim went 18 months with no discernable degredation. Our brightwork looks just as good as our neighbors' who uses a high end varnish. He just started his once a decade strip down to bare wood routine and is going to try the Cetol on his rub rail this time.

Comments about Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak:

Nothing is as beautiful to the eye as an recent good varnish job, but Cetol is so easy and durable that I have used it for years. Inside the boat, I still use varnish, but Cetol cannot be beat for exterior wood. Take the time to put on more coats and you can go a year between treatments.

Natural Teak is my favorite color on exterior wood, I have used on exterior mahogany and teak.

good and bad, it isn't varnish. I use it all the time.

I've been using this product for years on my boats (1974 22' Sea Ray SRV 225hp and 18" Sylvan center console w/150hp Yamaha outboard). I follow instructions on the can with a slight variation. I use acetone to clean except the last wipe then I use the interlux 216 thinner. the other variation is I use one or two coats always followed by three coats of "cetol marine" (for indoor application or low gloss) or "cetol marine gloss" for outside applications. I prefer the "gloss" outdoors it seems to last longer and I also like the look better outside.

On Teakwood in perfect circumstances, use some thinner to apply it easier; Prepare the Teakwood before you appy the varnish. It is NOT a cheap varnish, but far better.

Comments about Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak:

Varnish is a good product but it is NOT cheap. You have to apply it in good weather conditions with less moisture in the sky as possible. I usually apply first layer with 25% Paint thinner to let the varnish penetrate into the wood (Every kind of wood has different reactions) 2sd layer normal use of varnish, than let it dry at least 2 days. I even put it in the sun the first hours (Florida) When everything is dry check the forgotten spot and remove carefully the drups. The varnish can hold very long if you look after your outdoor (Teakwood)Furniture by NOT exposing them in the weather conditions. If possible cover it up, but let air let go through it or in the patio where rain and sun will not be a great influence. For the colder states in the North: place the furniture in dry and protected place. Using the varnish in colder temperatures is not good. In sellers, you need ventilation from a normal temperature. Drying will maybe longer. Careful with dusty area's, it can come attached on the varnish by drying.
