On Teakwood in perfect circumstances, use some thinner to apply it easier; Prepare the Teakwood before you appy the varnish. It is NOT a cheap varnish, but far better.

I used this on the outside of both a front and back door. these were new AAW Rustic doors. AAW will not name the variety of wood but it is a very dense hard tropical hardwood. Almost white in color. I used Teak colored Cetol. The color doesn't look anything like Teak. It's very dark, closer to walnut. It's supposed to be translucent, and it is, just barely. You have to look close to see the original wood grain. It's closer to a paint than a stain. The brush marks in the Cetol are much more prominent than the wood grain. The overall appearance when done is OK. Not anywhere near as attractive as a varnished door.
If this stuff lasts 6-8 years I'll be satisfied. But when it does come time to refinish I'll probably go with a marine varnish.

Comments about Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak:

Product worked very well on very some worn teak from a 1980 Whaler Montauk. Sanded down to 220 grit first and wiped clean with denatured alcohol. I used to own a wood sailboat and have done a tone of varnishing but did not want to use varnish on the teak louvered doors. Looks like varnish and no orange color that older Cetol products apparently had. Best thing about product was advice I got from Jamestown Distributors help line!

I've used this product fencing and window frames in Europe. I always liked it then and was thrilled to find this product which I'm using on teak outdoor furniture. It takes time to get all the layers applied, but it's well worth it!

Excellent product if you don't want to have to keep using Teak oil every 3 months. Gives old furniture a new look. I recommend you lightly pressure wash furniture so as not to fray wood. If you do fray the wood a 5 min light sanding will do. apply 3 coats using 1/4 paint thinner on first coat to help penetrate the wood.

Our boat has quite a bit of exterior teak-the Admiral is the queen of teak and insists on Cetol
She does 2 coats of natural and a final coat of clear gloss-looks great and lasts better than any other product we have tried even in the Bahamas

Comments about Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak:

The current iteration of this product is working very well for us. It does not add its own color to the wood we use it on and has proved a very durable coating. We've stopped using the "Marine" as it seems to dull the wood's color or maybe fog up is a better descriptor. The Teak looks great on teak as well as mahogany and cherry. We've used it over various stains and it looks great! We put 3 coats of gloss over 3 coats of the teak. This has allowed for a light sanding with 320 grit wet n dry and another maintenance coat of gloss once a year. Some exterior trim went 18 months with no discernable degredation. Our brightwork looks just as good as our neighbors' who uses a high end varnish. He just started his once a decade strip down to bare wood routine and is going to try the Cetol on his rub rail this time.

Nothing is as beautiful to the eye as an recent good varnish job, but Cetol is so easy and durable that I have used it for years. Inside the boat, I still use varnish, but Cetol cannot be beat for exterior wood. Take the time to put on more coats and you can go a year between treatments.

Natural Teak is my favorite color on exterior wood, I have used on exterior mahogany and teak.

good and bad, it isn't varnish. I use it all the time.
