Pettit Undercoats are available in 2 varieties of topside paints for wood. Old Salem Yacht White 6165 is designed for application on wood above the waterline. A sealer should first be used on bare wood for water resistance and dry rot protection. On rough, painted wood requiring a smoother surface for the finish enamel, either of these undercoats will work well. These high-build products have excellent filling properties and can be applied in a full, one-coat application.
6149 Easypoxy White Undercoater should be used as a base coat whenever the surface to be painted is aged, cracked, checked, pitted, or in any way less than smooth. It can be applied to fiberglass, wood and previously painted surfaces. Easypoxy White Undercoater dries quickly and is easy to sand.

6165 YACHT WHITE UNDERCOATER
6149 EASYPOXY WHITE UNDERCOATER
COVERAGE: 400 square feet per gallon.
DRY TO RECOAT: 2 to 16 hours - consult label.
APPLICATION TEMPERATURE: 50 degrees or higher on all the undercoaters.
THINNER: Use Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner for 6149 Easypoxy White Undercoater, 6165 Yacht White Undercoater.
SYSTEMS
WOOD: Seal new and bare wood with Pettit 2018 Clear Sealer. Sand and apply the standard undercoaters. On wood where the paint is in fairly good condition, sand thoroughly and apply the undercoater.
FIBERGLASS: The surface must be washed with Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner or 95 Fiberglass Dewaxer. Sand thoroughly and then rewash. Apply a coat of 6149 Easypoxy White Undercoater to the fiberglass surface. Let dry and sand thoroughly.

2012-05-25TOM STEPP asked: Can Easypoxy 6149 White Undercoater be used over a polysulphide caulking like Boatlife Life-Calk? I've had some problem with primer not drying where it came in contact with the Life-Calk. What other primers might work? How long does the Life-Calk have to cure before painting?

2012-06-04ROBERT GRECO: I used the White Undercoater over cured epoxy and it worked perfectly, can't comment on how it would work over Life-Caulk.
2012-06-30MICHAEL MOHER: tom I used hi build undercoat on the deck of my 22 kingston lobster boat sail boat... i live in minnesota and the winters here made my deck paint crack and peel... I put the hibuild on to fill the voids after scraping paint and then put a new coat of pettit non skid deck paint... so far so good we shall see what winter brings..
