4 Gauge Marine Tinned Battery Cable
4 AWG - Nominal OD Size: 13/32"
Constructed to American Wire Gauge standards, AWG wire is up to twelve percent larger than the equivalent SAE wire sizes. AWG wire provides a greater current capacity when compared to SAE gauge wire.
Marine Tinned Wire and Cables are manufactured from tin coated copper strands for maximum protection against corrosion, electrolysis and resists fatigue due to vibration and flexing.
Rated at 600 volts and 105 degrees C, the heavy duty insulation is resistant to heat and abrasion. Exceeds all UL1426, US Coast Guard Charterboat (CFR title 46) and ABYC standards.

2011-11-03FARLEY CHARTERS: The starter switch should be connected to a solenoid near the battery that will close the circuit of the heavier gage wire. the solenoid would use lighter wire and should be big enough to handle the higher amperage to the starter.

2011-11-03L.H. TURNER: I would say this would work fine for your situation. My batteries are 12 feet from the engine and no problem. Good luck and have fun!!!!

2011-11-03ROBERT TILLER: TECHNICALLY 4GA MAY BE ADEQUATE AS SOME CHARTS MAY SHOW HOWEVER WHEN THE RUN LENGTH IS CONSIDERED AS AN ESTIMATE, LONG TERM USE, CORROSION AND POSSIBLY LESS THAN PERFECT CRIMPS FACTOR IN AS WELL.
I WOULD GO WITH 1GA AND ENSURE MY TERMINAL CRIMPS WERE GOOD, USE MARINE GRADE HEAT SHRINK TO SEAL AND THEN USE AN ANTI CORROSION GREASE ON THE BATTERY AND ENGINE CONNECTIONS. ( ANTI CORROSION GREASE SHOULD BE USED ON JUST ABOUT ALL MARINE CONNECTIONS AS I HAVE FOUND THAT CORROSION AND LOOSE CONNECTIONS ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 90% OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS)
INSPECT AS A MATTER OF ROUTINE.
2011-11-04LLOYD TERAN: This wire will work just fine
2011-11-04THOMAS SURLES: I bought this cable for a different purpose -- to run approximately 25 feet to an electric windlass. It has performed perfectly in that application.
Comments about Jamestown Distributors 4 Gauge Marine Tinned Battery Cable - (Red, Black and Yellow):
Installed in our 1984 O'Day 19 to allow a Minn Kota Endura 50 mounted on the transom to receive the full 12 vdc from the four 6-volt GC-2 batteries installed in the cuddy cabin.
The length was just right. The cables are VERY flexible, unlike the stiffer 8 gauge wire I had before. It was easy to The wire was priced very reasonably compared to "per foot" sources and larger reels.
I have two other boats that I will do a similar conversion now that it worked so well.
