Comments about System Three QuikFair Fairing Compound:

I refinished the cabin of my 1966 Tartan 27 ft. fiberglass sailboat. I mixed a small amount of this product in a 3oz.cup at a time to cover MANY hairline cracks and gouges because it hardens quickly at high temperatures. This is one tough product. You want to use it sparingly. Once smoothed with a putty knife and later with sandpaper when dry (I did a lot of hand sanding as well as using electric sanders), it looks great under a coat of quality paint. It's worth spending the time with this product if you have a big job at hand.

Comments about System Three QuikFair Fairing Compound:

I have used all of the different West fillers with their epoxy and this product falls between the low density fill and their light weight microballoon fill. But this product forms a nice no sag consistancy withouthaving to add powder to liquid which cures to a sandable surface in around 4 hours. I use a small weight scale to meter the ratios.

Good for creating a smooth surfaces on wood or fiberglass. It has minimal shrinkage save time refilling holes. I would avoid using this product where any type of strenght is required.

Comments about System Three QuikFair Fairing Compound:

For a first time (and one time) boat builder this product was recommended by the designer. It is easy to work with in small batches. Spreads well with Bondo spreader and sands well. It is expensive so taking a few precautions to avoid waste is recommended. Just don't slap any extra on willy nilly as you'll just have to sand it off again!

Comments about System Three QuikFair Fairing Compound:

So far I've used the System Three quick fairing compound to level out the bottom of an old bath tub and to smooth out the top of a dried tree trunk we're using as a table on the deck. It's really easy to work with but the 2:1 mix rate is a bit hot and the working time is 5-10 minutes before 'dragging'. The instructions on the tubs say you can reduce it to 100:44 so I started using a scale to measure out better proportions and 100:44 seems to work really well for me allowing just that extra little bit of time to smooth out the product and makes for less sanding and finishing. Great stuff!

I am ordering more today! We found this fairing compound to mix well (being two to one it could be measured visually) laid out like butter, and dried quickly. Sanding after 3 hours is recommended, we sanded after two hours without any problem at all and it was a pleasure. We're looking forward to putting primer on it today.

Comments about System Three QuikFair Fairing Compound:

I use west system almost exclusively for rebuild/repairs. Mixing product and adding fillers is easy, but time consuming. This stuff is easy to mix, consistency is perfect every time. Dry time is 4hrs, allowing 2 coats in a day. It is easy to sand. Do not mix large quantities. As with any epoxy product it will have an exothermic reaction, the bigger the quantity you mix the faster it will heat up and dry. I took a chunk about half the size of a baseball that had dried on my mixing board and tried smashing it with a hammer to test it's strength. 22oz hammer, took several whacks to crack this stuff. It has similar strength to mixing West System epoxy and adding their 404 structural filler. It is just way faster to mix and way easier to sand. Remember epoxy over polyester, never polyester over epoxy!!

This product is great for fairing the bottom of the boat. It can be used to fill in cracks, gaps, dings and splits. It is also carvable as well as shapable if you let it cure until it is plyable. I have used this to smooth the bottom of my boat and to fix the damaged lapstrakes. I did this by building up the product after each application. Remember to sand in between applications. THIS IS AN AWESOME PRODUCT AND EASY TO USE!
