Beckson screw-out watertight deck plates provide tool-free easy access to valves, tanks and compartments. These deck plates feature a self-aligning center that makes cross-threading and mis-aligning virtually impossible.
A patented back-up sealing wall ensures waterproof seal, even if the plate gasket is removed. A clear center plate version provides an easy visual access of controls and gauges without the necessity of removing the plate.

2012-10-24DEB LAMB asked: What does inside diameter mean? I measured ours and on the top side of the plate it's 4 1/2" and a little over 6" across the whole thing including the rim around it.

2012-10-24DON DENISON: I cannot help as we used these on a custom machine which is not longer at this site. I suggest that you look at the Beckson website.
2012-10-24DANIEL DORSCH: The inside diameter is the diameter of the hole through the deck plate. The diameter of the hole you need to cut into the fiberglass is the cut size, and the largest diameter is the outside diameter. Hope this helps.

2012-10-25LAWRENCE MINTZ: The inside diameter is what the dimension when you take the cover off . The larger dimension includes the flange that would bolt ( screw) to the mounting surface
2012-10-25DON COOPER: The inside diameter (ID) would be the 4-1/2" measurement across the opening or the outside diameter of the cover. The outside edge of the deck plate is the 6" outside diameter (OD).
2012-10-25RUSTY EHRLICH: Hello. Based on my knowledge of the product, the inside diameter describes the maximum "width" something can be to pass through the hole in the deck plate. So, as an example, if the inside diameter of my deck plate is 4 1/2 inches, my fist has to be less than 4 1/2 inches to pass through the hole. I hope that's helpful.

I needed to repair the rudder linkage on my home-built sailboat. Without these plates I would have needed three more joints and another six inches in my arms. I got the idea from another DIY blog, the right solution at the right time.

I'm an avid fisherman who builds his own boats. The Beckson plates work very well, and they put up with a lot of abuse. They install easily. They will leak a tiny amount of water over a season's time, but others I've tried leak a lot more, and don't like to get beat up.
