Perko 493 Water Strainers are easy to clean and install. Raw water strainers are critical elements of a boat engine's cooling system. Series 493 strainers feature cast mounting lugs cast on both sides for universal mounting, plus four outside tie rods and a 304 stainless steel strainer basket to minimize electrolysis. Screen hole size diameter .077 Inches, 46% open area. Hinged lugs for the cast bronze cover permits easy removal and cleaning of the basket.
A Drain Plug in the bottom casting is provided for easily removing sediment and draining for winterizing. O ring seals prevent leaks under pressure or vacuum.

2012-07-02JOSEPH WILLEY: Hi. The cylinder is made of lexan (similar to plexiglass but much stronger). The 4 bolts hold it all together and everything comes apart. If it's just leaking around the seals than all that is needed is a gasket set. Make sure to order the correct replacement material for your model (cork or rubber). Good luck.
2012-07-04MARK PERGOLA: It is plastic. The top and bottom separate and have either cork or rubber gaskets. You can order a gasket set which has one for the lid and two, one for the top and one for the bottom. You need to get the correct type (cork or rubber).
2011-09-29ROB ZILAI asked: i have a perko intake water strainer, cat# 493/500, and need the three gaskets: the one for the cap had an i.d. of +-2-5/8"...o.d. of +-3". The two for the cylinder body have an i.d. of +-4", and an o'd' of +-4-1/2". I'm having trouble ordering the parts. Can you help me out? I want to save this item for use on my 1952 Crosby Striper. thanks
