Pettit Trinidad SR has been voted the #1 antifouling by trade magazines. This hard modified epoxy bottom paint contains up to 70% cuprous oxide (copper content) plus slime fighting biocides.
Trinidad SR provides long-lasting protection against barnacles, algae and slime prevalent in warm tropical waters. Featuring a formula similar to regular Pettit Trinidad, SR contains Biocide booster CIBA Irgarol, which significantly reduces soft growth and slime buildup.

Trinidad SR is a hard, protective paint that yields the most durable finish for long-lasting performance that still allows for easy burnishing. It can be applied over most hard antifouling coatings. Be sure to remove old, soft antifouling paint before applying to any surface. Excellent adhesion to fiberglass, wood and steel hulls, but do not use on aluminum.
APPLICATION INFORMATION
Trinidad SR is heavily loaded with cuprous oxide. As a result of this there is a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. It is necessary to thoroughly mix the paint before using. If possible shake the can of paint on a mechanical paint shaker. Before using check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in. If mixing is going to be done with a wooden paddle or an electric drill mixer, pour off half of the liquid from the top of the can into another can and then properly mix in any settled pigment; then remix the two parts together thoroughly.
Adhere to all application instructions, precautions, conditions and limitations to obtain optimum performance. Refer to individual labels and tech sheets for detailed instructions when using associated products, etc. Do not thin Trinidad SR more than 5% (6 ounces per gallon) or inadequate paint film thickness will occur and premature erosion of the finish will be likely.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Coating performance, in general, is proportional to the degree of surface
preparation. Follow recommendations carefully, avoiding shortcuts. Inadequate
preparation of surfaces will virtually assure inadequate coating performance.
MAINTENANCE
No antifouling paint can be effective under all conditions of exposure. Man
made pollution and natural occurrences can adversely affect antifouling paint
performance. Extreme hot and cold water temperatures, silt, dirt, oil, brackish
water and even electrolysis can ruin an antifouling paint. Therefore, we
strongly suggest that the bottom of the boat be checked regularly to make
sure it is clean and that no growth is occurring. Lightly scrub the bottom with
a soft brush to remove anything from the antifouling paint surface. Scrubbing
is particularly important with boats that are idle for extended periods of time.
The coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically.

2013-01-22ED MARTIN asked: i live in the northeast newbedford mass in the trinidad sr the best hard paint for my area of do recommend another type of paint thanks ? ed

2013-01-22DOUGLAS BINDER: I use Trinidad SR and only have to paint the bottom once every two years. The boat is taken out of the water for the winter. never had any marine growth on the bottom.
2013-01-22JIMMY HARRELL: Ed, don't know why Jamestown sent this to me since I live in the SE, (Georgia). Anyway, I have my boat in a fresh water lake year round. In the summer, slime accumulates but is easily brushed or rinsed off. During the colder months little slime accumulates.

2013-01-22SCOTT SINCLAIR: Hi Ed
My name is Scott Sinclair, I have usede the Pettit Trinidad SR BT paint for the last 6yrs or so. I fish in PugetSound & S.E.Alaska, I leave my boat in the water year around and it does'nt slime up or develop any growth. Highly reccommend.
2013-01-22CURT LARSEN: I have consistently used Pettit Trinidad, both regular and SR, for the past 10-15 years. It is the best bottom paint I have found and I rely on it. Although I live on Cheseapeake Bay in a meso-haline body of water, I have also had my boat (a 1969 Luders 33) with lots of wetted surface below the waterline in tropical waters in the Southeast and Florida. We can leave our boats in the water all year here on the Chesapeake. I generally paint the bottom every three years. The SR version does keep down the algal growth and other fuzzy stuff.
2013-01-22STUART JAMES: I can only speak of Florida and the Caribbean as far south as Grenada. I apply two coats of Trinidad and it generally has no growth for the first two years, thereafter some scrubbing is involved, but is still fair for a third and sometimes fourth year. I use the red because the toxin content is highest of all the colors.
2013-01-23STEPHEN BRUFORD: I have used this Trinidad Antifouling paint twice now in the last 3 years.
Highly recommend it for where I am in Lake Mi. I found I don't need to use it every year just add to what I have after light sanding/powerwash.
Boat stay in water from April to Oct each year and then hauled out for winter.
This Antifouling paint was also used by the previous owner in Florida near Miami and there was some growth when boat was hauled that easily washed off with powerwasher. I used same paint to prevent any potential bonding issues.

2012-12-17Kevin V: The green only come in a gallon.
2011-10-11A shopper asked: Does the Trinidad SR paint have to be reapplied if a boat is pulled out of the water?
+Expand Answers
2011-10-12LUKE GEORGET: You do not have to reaply the paint, I took my boat out twice since March, the paint was fine. I decided to reaply for safety and because some parts were discolored but it really wasn't necessary.
2011-10-12MARK VAIVODA: I plan on reapplying Trinidad SR when our sailboat is pulled. However, we live in South Florida, the boat is in the water year round and has monthly bottom cleaning by a diver. Since SR has been applied 2 years ago(preparation and 2 coats applied by us) we have been able to take the boat out only a couple times a year for 1-2 week trips due to work demands.
As usual, the manufacturer's instructions are best but I don't expect to get more than another year from the bottom paint.
2011-10-12CHRIS WOMACK: Yes, my boat has been in the water one year and is pealing.
2011-10-12CURT LARSEN: I've had my classic Luders 33 for for 17 years now. I've used Pettit Trinidad since acquiring the boat. I started with the original Trinidad red until the SR version came on the market. I now use that. I have to say that I've never had the occasion to think about whether or not to reapply another coat of paint after a short haul. I think the issue is not having the paint dry out. When mine has been pressure washed, oxidized red paint comes off in the wash water. I keep my boat in the water on the Chesapeake Bay and I can generally get three years between bottom coats. Pettit recommends two coats of paint which for me means 2 to 2.5 gallons. If I were to do a short haul and let the boat dry out within a year after my original 2 coats, I think I would use the cost of the haul to invest in at least one more coat to freshen it up. Pettit says that the boat can be kept out for up to 60 days before putting it back in the water. I've just repainted before taking the boat south for the winter in Florida. Just a thought, but I like to buy from Jamestown because of the lower price for this very pricey paint combined with no sales tax here in MD and often free shipping offers. This time I saved over $50 by not shopping at my local CA-based boating supplies store. Hope this helps.
2011-10-14MADELINE KLINE: It should be reapplied as needed depending upon the condition of the bottom. I believe it is reasonable to expect to reapply a good antifouling paint once every 4-5 years depending once again on the conditions of your boat and its use.
2011-10-14MADELINE KLINE: This paint is very thick bodied and appears to be a longer lasting antifouling paint then some others I have experienced. Proper bottom preparation for an older wooden bottom boat is crucial.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit Trinidad SR Antifouling Bottom Paint:
Make sure surface is fully prepped, clean and lightly sanded between coats (wear mask while sanding) before application. I covered my 44" full keel sailboat with one gallon in about two hours. This was my third and final coat before putting it back in the water. Minimum two coats are suggested by the manufacturer. Also, I had a paint store shake the can TWICE before applying to get the copper mixed in well.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit Trinidad SR Antifouling Bottom Paint:
I have used Trinidad for the last two times I painted the bottom of my boat. It holds up extremely well to the southeast Florida elements. It has been on the boat for almost 3 years this time and we are still winning races (sailboat). Of course we clean the bottom before every race, but the hard finish and great biocide make the job very easy. I'm putting Trinidad back on this spring.

Comments about Pettit Z-Spar Pettit Trinidad SR Antifouling Bottom Paint:
This bottom paint provides great coverage and lasts a long time. We used this paint on our boat 3-1/2 years ago and had great success with it. That's why we purchased it again. Boating in southwest Florida is tough because the waters are corrosive and your boat stays in the water all year long. This bottom paint held up extremely well. We would highly recommend it.
