Soundown composite foam and vinyl insulation sheets effectively quiet and dampen noise created by engines, generators, and other equipment. Sheets are available in 27 square foot size sheets and feature a vapor barrier to lock out any unwanted odors.
Insulation sheets are composed of a layer of mass loaded vinyl sandwiched between two layers of polyether fire retardant foam, and then covered by a thin white vapor barrier. Use to reduce vibration and noise from marine machinery that may produce significant bass and midrange frequencies such as engines, generators, and pumps.

Used product to insulate I engine compartment on
36 catalina sailboat only needed 1/2 sheet.
Did not have enough to do entire job but j ran out of time. I am a snow bird.
Very good product they do make in different sizes.

This link will give you the information you need. The Jamestown web site is a little tricky to navigate and when you find the Soundown page you will need to click on a drop down box to find the price. Good product, I installed the 2" thick product and it works well. You will need some spray on adhesive to get it to stick to the surface, the tape won't hold large areas down.

2013-03-26MICHAEL CRANNY: I have a Volvo diesel in my 26' Striper ( 200 hp) and its very noisy particularly when the turbo kicks in. I just installed 2" foam and it has cut down the noise considerably. The thicker the better.
I have more on order to fully insulate the engine compartment.

2011-08-15Dave Gardner: Yes, but that would be a pretty expensive. You can buy foil faced foam insulation to block sunlight and heat from your local lumber yard. This product is specially designed to block and absorb noise.
