2012-01-08THOMAS HARDY: This unit comes with a mounting plate with four holes which attaches to your surface (in my case I mounted it to a steering pedestal). The compass itself then inserts into the mounting plate and you tighten a screw to hold the compass in place (you can rotate the compass housing about ten degrees to compensate for magnetic North before tightening the screw). Lastly, the stainless steel cover slips over the entire unit and attaches with two screws. It took me less than five minutes for the install. It really looks great.
