Questions & Answers about Nicro Minivent 1000 Solar Vent:
2013-06-08A shopper asked: I have a very old Nicro battery powered vent with a cutout hole size of 5-1/2 inches. Will I have problems with replacing it with a 3" Nicro vent?
+Expand Answers
2013-06-09FRANCISCO MORALES: You will need an adapter to convert from 5 1/2 to 3". Or you could use a pvc board and make a new 3" hole a glue it to the deck with 5,500 gloo.
2012-09-29PAUL BULKLEY asked: can the solar vent withstand accidental step on.?

2012-10-02CHARLES WINNEY: The unit is sturdy but I would be seriously concerned about damaging the photo-voltaic cell cap.
2012-10-03paul bulkley: Hi Charles:
Thank you for your response. Presumably stepping on the edge of the unit momentarily is of no concern, but stepping centrally would probably damage the photo-voltaic cell cap.
What has been your experience regarding extraction of internal air:
1. Full sunlight.
2. Partial sunlight
Thank you again - greatly appreciated.

2012-10-03CHARLES WINNEY: Full SL: moves a good amount of air in the fwd berth. Not near as stuffy as I've experienced.
Partial: still adequate. much better than without. Humidifier runs less so saves electricity too.
2012-10-02NICK TULLOH: I haven't stepped on mine yet but I'd doubt it. Be advised that the airflow through this thing is minimal. Someone described it as not enough to disturb a mouse fart.
2012-10-18WILLIAM MCBRINE: Paul I sent this solar panel back and went with a Vetus.

2012-05-29GARY BOWMAN: no
2012-06-06DOUGLAS ARMATO: No Switch. No Battery. Just runs when the sun is bright enough.
2012-07-12Tom Barr: no.
2011-11-27BABU ABRAHAM asked: Is the flow is to one direction or can it be reversed. I mean heat extraction from inside as well as fresh air blow to inside ?
+Expand Answers
2011-11-29RICHARD LOHEED: For a multitude of reasons, the flow is not reversible-
1. The axial fan blades are curved for air flow in one direction, typically up and out.
2. This is helped by the (typically) warmer interior air rising (If the fan is on, the sun is shining on the decks)
3. The solar panels are DC, they are wired internally with no reversing switch
Though it is likely the DC motor could be reversed by swapping the wires or installing a reversing switch, if you did it would not work very efficiently (if at all) since the blades are optimized for air up and out, and they would soon be fighting the buoyancy of the air inside.
2011-11-30DOUGLAS ARMATO: One direction only. Exhaust.
Comments about Nicro Ventilation Nicro Minivent 1000 Solar Vent:
This fan installed nicely into an existing 4" hole in my deck; one thing to be aware of it seems to require direct, bright sunlight to operate, just daylight is not enough to make it run. I think it will suit my needs though and the price was reasonable.

Comments about Nicro Ventilation Nicro Minivent 1000 Solar Vent:
This seems like a great product. I replaced an old unit on the deck of my Com-Pac 23 last week. I upgraded to the model with the stainless trim ring. Seems like a good way to protect the plastic housing.
I was a little disappointed that the solar array was assembled in such a way that it sits at an angle to the centerline of the boat. However this does not affect the unit's performance.
Would be nice if the product description gave more dimensional informatiom. The diameter of the fan housing is 7". If the unit is installed without the optional interior trim ring then the hole only needs to be 3.5".
I would recommend this product to anyone that wants a solar-powered fan for their boat.

Comments about Nicro Ventilation Nicro Minivent 1000 Solar Vent:
The solar powered vent works round the clock to keep the head area on my boat supplied with fresh air. It really makes a big difference. The fan is very quiet. BTW the fan is reversible so that it can be setup for air intake or exhaust. A nice self contained unit.
