2013-03-30TED CLARK asked: I need to change the oil in my wave runners and was wondering if this would work on them. They have small dipsticks and I have tried using an electric pump, along with a hand pump, both of which turned out to be a piece of crap. Tired of wasting my hard earned money. I need help because the only way to remove oil is by pumping method?

2013-04-02DEB THURSTON: IKR? Had the same problem. Spent a lot of wasted money until I bought this. I know it is pricey, but it works great and has different sized tubes. I have a Johnson 50HP OB, so my dipstick line is larger than yours, but the smaller extracted hose would work fine.
Pros: Multiple sized lines. Easy to Use, Self contained so doesn't make a mess. Has feet that fold out to hold it steady.
Cons: This isn't really anything to do with the extractor as much as physics, but the smaller the tube diameter, the warmer the oil will have to be (warmer = thinner) and may take a bit more time to extract. I extracted mine stone cold, and it took a bit.
When I used it to chg the oil in my car, and it was warm, it extracted very quickly.
I would definitely recommend this product!
2012-10-24JACK REED asked: I got this yesterday. I want to extract the oil from my diesel engine. I put the tube down the dipstick well, and gave it around 15 pumps. I went back an hour later and found it had pumped maybe a pint of oil, and there was no more suction. I pumped it up again, and could hear what sounded like air excaping. After two or three minutes, it had lost vacuum and was not pumping anything. Any thoughts?

A few random thoughts:
1) Make sure the vehicle is on level ground
2) Run the engine to warm the oil (easier to extract than cold oil)
3) Remove the red cap on the top of the extraction pump. Look for a black
rubber ring. Sometimes these are missing. If it's missing, request a
replacement. It it's not missing, make sure it fits the inside of the cap
and isn't not deformed. If it is, request a replacement.
4) Make sure the small black extraxction tube splicer fits tight
5) The dipstick tubes on some engines have internal baffles or sharp
bends that make it difficult to insert the extraction tube. If the extraction
tube doesn't reach the bottom of the crankcase, only a small amount
of oil can be removed and twill quickly lose vacuum. Try inserting
a coathanger wire down the dipstick tube until it bottoms out. Then
compare how far it went down into the dipstick tube with that of the
extraction tube. If the tube didn't go down as far, try rounding off the end
of the tube. The squared of end can cause the tube to hang up.
6) If the extraction tube is a snug fit into the dipstick tube, unscrew the oil
filter a very small amount. This will allow air to flow into the crankcase
above the oil level in the crankcase.
7) Some engines by design won't allow extracting oil from the dipstick
tube.
8) Don't turn the extractor unit completely upside down when you're
finished. Some oils and additives will attact the seal around the
pump shaft and won't allow the unit to hold a vacuum.
2012-10-25Jack Reed: Thanks, Ron - good thoughts. This is a sailboat with perkins diesel engine. Unfortunately, I winterized the engine a week before the Moeller system arrived. so I can't start the gine to warm up the oil. It starts to come up quite well in spite of being cold, but then I can hear the sound of air infiltrating the vacuum. So I will follow your recommendations on ensuring that I have a good seal. Thanks!

I have not had a chance to use my extractor yet but you obviously have a vacuum leak at one of the seals in the container assembly or your connectors in the suction lines. Try to listen closely and see if you can determine where the sound of escaping air is coming from and check that seal or connector.

I use it to chg the oil in my vehicles as well as my OB Boat Engine. Works great. Works best if oil is warm, but I did change the boat engine oil at 45 degrees F and it was slow, but did extract it in about 30 minutes. Because it is self-contained, you can actually change the boat oil with the boat still in the water. No water hoses or muffs to hook up to run oil through and check the levels. Had purchased many cheaper units and trashed them. This is definitely worth the $. It will be the last one you buy!

After evaluating reviews for virtually every competing product (electric pumps, many competitors, etc.) I settled on the 'Newly Designed' Moeller because of it's double-action pump (up/dn 14x), compact profile, and non-gimmicky design. It does not have extra-valves to pump out fluids (those extras often become leaking points). It does what it does extremely well. So far I have not found any negatives, it is such a pleasure to just get the job done, done well, and quickly (a few minutes for the 6-quart oil). It has quite strong suction ! If you need the pump-out valve then go to another mfg/design, I just pour the fluid out and the Moeller is very easy to handle when pouring because it has a strong handle along it's verticle container axis. One last point - it comes with a hose adaptor.

This worked great. The adapter for Mercruiser works well and it has enough tubing to reach down to a low bilge. I really like being able to use it manually not needing electricity like the other pumps.

This product worked perfectly well draining motor oil from a 2007 Chrysler Sebring, a Troy-Built 30" Snowthrower, a Husquevarna 42" zero turn mower and a Husquevarna Trimmer. The suction tubes that are included may not reach the deepest part of the oil pan you are trying to siphon but it has worked on 4 out of 5 motors I was trying to drain. I could only get half the oil out of my 1995 Subaru Legacy, it may have had a twist that the siphon tube could not get past. The only con so far is that the drain tubes are kind of short for some applications and the instructions want you to siphon warm/hot oil only. I would have liked the option of letting the motors sit for awhile so I could get as much of the old oil as possible but this cuts a lot of messines out of the process so I'll take what I can get.

If you own a sailboat with an inboard engine, you need to have one of these. If anything, it works better than advertised. I put the hose down the dipstick tube, pumped up the pressure and then just left it alone to pull all the oil out. Neat and hassel-free oilchanging for a sailboat. No mess at all. This is a substantial improvement over my previous routine.

I have a nearly inaccessible Atomic 4. Oil changes used to be a real pain. This pump makes the job a piece of cake. I have also used it to change the oil in my car when I didn't feel like crawling under. Makes disposing of the used oil easy too. Buy one you won't be sorry.
