APPLICATION INFORMATION
Horizons is heavily loaded with cuprous oxide. As a result of this loading there
is a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf
for several months. It is necessary to thoroughly mix the paint before using. If
possible, shake the can of paint on a mechanical paint shaker. Before using,
check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been
mixed in. If mixing is going to be done with a wooden paddle or an electric
drill mixer, pour off half of the liquid from the top of the can into another can
and then properly mix in any settled pigment; then remix the two parts together
thoroughly.
Adhere to all application instructions, precautions, conditions, and limitations to
obtain optimum performance. Refer to individual labels and tech sheets for
detailed instructions when using associated products, etc. Do not thin Horizons
more than 10% (12 ounces per gallon) or inadequate paint film thickness will
occur and premature erosion of the finish will be likely. Do not apply Horizons
in thick films or in more than four coats as poor adhesion may result. When
applying by roller use a short nap (3/16 inch maximum) roller cover.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Coating performance, in general, is proportional to the degree of surface
preparation. Follow recommendations carefully, avoiding shortcuts. Inadequate
preparation of surfaces will virtually assure inadequate coating performance.
MAINTENANCE
No antifouling paint can be effective under all conditions of exposure. Man
made pollution and natural occurrences can adversely affect antifouling paint
performance. Extreme hot and cold water temperatures, silt, dirt, oil, brackish
water and even electrolysis can ruin an antifouling paint. Therefore, we strongly
suggest that the bottom of the boat be checked regularly to make sure it is clean
and that no growth is occurring. Lightly scrub the bottom with a soft brush to
remove anything from the antifouling paint surface. Scrubbing is particularly
important with boats that are idle for extended periods of time. The selfcleaning
nature of the coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically.

I honestly don't know I have not hauled out yet. I have heard of people thinning ablative paint, but just not sure about the Pettit Horizons. Practical Sailor sure gave this paint a strong recommendation.

Made 2 purchases (seperate orders) of Horizon and Trilux paint sithin 2 days of each other.. Jamestown would not honor not charging HAZMAT charge on the second order using springboart promotion. Went round and round with your company and would appreciate it if you could forward this to Michael Mills. I spent over $500.00 since Sept 2012 and some mid level manager let a $5.00 HAZMAT charge stand in the way of keeping a good customer.

2012-04-10ANDREW UHLER: My 22 ft grady goes in the water (Atlantic City) mid May through June and then sits on its trailer until September and October. Other than a few barnacles and some slime at the end of the boating season it is fine
2012-04-10GEOFFREY SMITH: I usually paint one week before launching, and have had no problems. I would not be surprised if the time between painting and launching can be considerably more than that.

2012-04-23WILLIAM STIRLING: I usually prep the bottom and wait until a few days before launching to paint it. I've never pushed it beyond four or five days.
Applied one coat black then one coat blue. Sailed in the Sea of Cortez. Wiped down with sponge monthly. Except for two 10 day periods in marinas boat was used every other day. Three months after application there were 3/8" barnacles.

I have used Horizons bottom paint on my Catalina sailboats for 4 years with good results. I have been able to get 2 years out of each paint job, with only a touchup required between paint jobs. The paint covers well but I apply 2 coats. The paint does a good job of preventing barnacles, however some years I notice some slime staining, not a significant issue.
