Fabric prep is everything
By Michael from San Diego

I painted the CF numbers onto an Achilles Hypalon inflatable. It's critical to clean the surface, but NOT to use Toluene/similar solvents. I used some boat wash, and cleaned all the 303 off 'til the surface was dull. Taped the stencils together for the reg numbers, checked it on a piece of paper for spacing, and then taped it on the inflated boat (using low-stick tape to mark a straight line). Followed the stencils with a ballpoint pen, took the stencils off, and painted a thin guideline of paint along the pen lines. After 20 mins, filled in the rest with the bottle supplied brush. Waited 48hrs for cure in 60-73f temps, low humidity. NO Smearing, No tackiness, Tested bendability and pressure adhesion...it does fine. * Don't use solvents to prep!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

MDR Numerbering Kit is Awful
By GW from Mesa, AZ

I spent hours painting this stuff on and 3 days letting it cure. It then smeared off and onto the rest of the inflatable. This stuff should be taken off the market. Now I'm having trouble getting the smears off the boat.

BLATANT PRODUCT FAIL.
By Inflatable 5hp 4-stroke and loving it. from NE Pennsylvania

Appallingly deficient product. I should have forseen a problem when I saw this was water-based paint. However, the product advertises itself as a "lettering kit for inflatable boats", so I took it upon faith that the "paint" was special and would rubberize. No way. This usage (stenciled numbers on a collapsible hull) is a tall order for any paint to hold up. It's hard to imagine ANY water-based paint that can handle this tough job. After more than double the cure-time (4 days), I can still scratch the paint off with my thumbnail and very little effort. I can smear it with my bare finger. One week after applying, I can scrub most of the paint off with toothbrush.THIS IS GARBAGE, and JD SHOULD REMOVE THE PRODUCT FROM THEIR LIST. HEAR THAT GUYS? No hard feelings if JD didn't test the product, but it's garbage. Not only was my time wasted in applying it (cleaning the runs that went under the stencils as I went), but now I have to clean this garbage off my boat and start over. I'd pay an extra $40 to have this lousy paint completely removed from my boat. The "stencil system" is also not very impressive, either. It's just construction-paper cut outs. This so-called "kit" is nothing that you couldn't do on your own if you printed your own lettering on thick paper and cut it out yourself. The paint is thin, and easily runs under the stencil- paper. Paint for this kind of job should be very thick and much much more durable than this junk.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
