Did you install this alone or with a separate water lift muffler? Did it quite the engine noise?
Asked on 08/28/2012 by Jim WillisI am replacing the gosseneck in an existing installation (the old Vetus gooseneck developed a leak in the case along a seam). The exaust is routed from the engine to a circular unit level with the base of the engine- I presume this is the "separate water lift muffler" - from there the hose is routed tin a vertical loop to the top of the engine compartment and then back to the transom where the gosseneck is installed. Given that this is the way the boat came I do not know what effect, if any, the gooseneck has on engine noise. I hope that helps. Charles S/V Ariel

Answered on 09/18/2012 by Jim WillisJim, I installed a Vetus NLP75 (dual stage/waterlock) lift muffler (below the waterline), this goes up to the gooseneck (above the waterline). You must use a lift muffler if you need to use a gooseneck. I can't comment on the noise reduction as I've yet to run it (in the middle of a restoration). I expect that it will be relatively quiet with the dual stage lift and the gooseneck. You can also put a regular in line muffler after the lift muffler and before/after the gooseneck to reduce noise even more. Check out pages 60-75 of the Vetus catalog, very good diagrams, and everything you might need based on the configuration of your engine/boat. If you go to JDs website, type Vetus in the search box, the link to the catalog will be in the More Info section, bottom left. Hope this helps.
Answered on 09/13/2012 by ALAN SEITZWould this work with a 1gm yanmar engine on a sailboat. if so do you think it would mitigate the diesel mustache common on a cape dory 25d sailboat ?
Asked on 05/15/2017 by eddie from Oyster bay NYIt should work ok on a 1GM, it won't do anything to eliminate the mustache.
