Question

will replacing my 13 inch steering wheel with a 15 inch wheel reduce the steering load at cruise speeds?

Top Answer

Generally speaking, when you put a bigger wheel, it reduces the force needed to turn the wheel or maintain a certain position.

Answer Question

Question

Hi guys, I have a 97 Chris Craft 215 Ultra with tilt steering. The paper work I have indicates the unit is a Commander 290 tilt. I have a 5.7 Volvo with power steering assist. The steering has some play in it but not too much. I also tried to replace just the steering wheel and cannot get four of six hex cap screws out. So with a bit of play in the steering, what do you suggest? replace or? As for the wheel itself, any suggestions? -Andrew

Asked on 06/10/2016 by Undisclosed

Top Answer

If you don't like the little bit of play you would need to replace it. If you do we suggest you replace the helm and the cable. As far as the 4 hex cap screws, try some liquid wrench penetrating oil on the screw, let sit overnight then try. If all else fails you will have to drill out.
