Question

I have 1/2" oar locks. Are the plastic sleeves 1/2 inch one of the responses says NO? Thanks Tom

Asked on 10/18/2012 by Tom H

Top Answer

The inside diameter of the plastic sleeves is exactly 1/2 inch in diameter (measured with a micrometer). If your shanks are also exactly 1/2 inch in diameter the fit might be tight, but the 1/2 inch shanks on my oarlocks fit fine (just snug). The quality of the sockets is very good. Hope this helps! Answer

The oarlock sockets are not available to measure as the boat is stored out of town. I do have the oar locks that I use in them and they measure a scant 1/2 inch...that be about 1/64 or so smaller than 1/2inch....so I'd say that the sockets should probably work with 1/2 in oarlocks.

Answer

I have a set of these but haven't installed them yet. A brand new oarlock that measures (with a caliper) 0.495" is so tight it won't go in all the way. I'm not sure whether the sockets will "wear in" or if I'll have to ream out the sockets a little.

Answer

I had to buy the same brand of oarlocks as the oarlock sleeves in order to get a decent working fit!

Answer

Yes. 1/2 is a standard size. When product questions arise it is always handy to get the product model number from the JD listing and go to the manufacturer's website for better descriptions.

I think at least 1/8 inch. Unfortunately I cannot measure them; they outlasted the boa.

Answer

I would guess about 1/8 inch, trust me, they are sturdily built and will hold up, I installed two sets on a tandem rower and don't foresee any problems, good luck Mike
