Size, working load limit, and trademark are permanently marked on all shackles listed on this page. Loads are based on a safety factor of 6 to 1. When tested all shackles are pulled at a uniform rate of speed in direct tension. (Any deviations such as angular lifts, shock loads, modification of the basic forging, etc., will result in drastically reduced working load limits.)

These shackles are more expensive than others you may find, but 'for want of a good shackle the boat may be lost'. I recently had a new mooring installed and it seems the upper chain would be best to have a dependable US brand that has been hailed as very good. I do check the shackles in the fall and spring, but metal can go downhill fast, and the tensile strength of these shackles is greater than foreign competitors. I was happy with the prompt delivery and packing and the order met Jamestown's free shipping quota.
