AWL-BRITE PLUS is a new buffable, high build, three component clear urethane for marine brightwork. It provides a far more durable finish than varnish, is faster curing and as easy to apply. Do not use below the waterline. *** FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY ***
Surface Preparation Wood should be clean, dry, smooth, and well seasoned. New Wood Use a marine teak wood cleaner or wood bleach to remove excess oils, promote uniformity, and adhesion. Follow manufacturer's instructions for use and thoroughly remove all cleaner and neutralizer residue before proceeding. Rough sawn lumber must be sanded to level the grain. Work grits to effectively level grain 60/80 to 100/150 to 220 etc. When grain is level, smooth sand with 320 grit paper.
Old finishes in good condition should be washed with AWL-PREP Surface Cleaner, then sanded with 220-320 grit paper to remove gloss. Old finishes in poor condition should be removed. Test on a small area to make sure Awl Brite Clear does not attack old finish. If old finish is attacked, it must be completely removed before continuing.
Mixing and Reduction Awl-Brite Clear is a component product. Mix by volume 2parts J3005 with 1 part J3006 until 1 smooth, homogenous mixture is obtained. Then add 1/2 part A0031. Overall mix is 2.1:1/2 by volume. Pot life is 1 to 2 hrs at 77 F/50% relative humidity.
New Bare Wood Apply one light, smooth coat and allow to cure 8-12 hrs. Lightly sand with 320-400 grit paper to remove wicks and nubs before applying additional material.
General Apply light, smooth coats. Apply 2 coats in an 8 hr period. Allow to cure 8-12 hrs or overnight and repeat. Ten coats are recommended.
Sand as little as possible. Sanding is only required when/if product runs, sags, or brush marks need to be leveled. If dirt or grit must be removed from the surface, or if has been over 36 hrs since last application.
If no leveling is required, but it has been more than 36 hrs since last application, dull the surface with Scotchbrite pads. If possible, avoid curing or applying in direct sunlight. Do not apply or cure below 65 F.
