Question

What's the best hook and loop to remove rust from trailer tongue?

Asked on 03/28/2012 by Undisclosed

Top Answer

For me it would depend on the depth and pitting level of the rust. If it is light surface rust I would use 80 grit and if there is some but little pitting I would start with 36 grit then 80. If the rust is deeply pitted then I would wire brush it with a power implement to get down in the pits.

Answer

40 or 60 grit. You might also try a stiff wire wheel on a rotary power supply--drill or something of that ilk.

Answer

I would say start with an 80 grit paper as long as it is the flat part of the tongue. If it involves the hitch or other curved parts a compressor with a needle scaler would be the best. Then finish that part by hand with sandpaper. Steve
