3M Perfect-It Gelcoat Light Cutting Polish with Wax Customer Questions and Answers

Question

We have a Manta 42 catamaran, currently in the yard and I want to give the hull a polish. The boat was professionally cleaned and waxed 14 months ago, nothing has been done to it since then and it has light oxidation. I was going to compound first with either 3M Compound for high gloss gelcoat or their Marine Compound and Finishing Material followed by 2 coats of Collinite Heavy Duty Fleetwax. A lot of work, but I know the results would be good. The rep. at 3M that I just spoke to said that the 3M Perfect It would give as good a job. Does anyone have any experience with the Perfect It? I am dubious about a one step product.

I would start at almost the slowest RPM your buffer can go, mines about 600 rpm I think. Slowly work your speed up if needed till you feel comfortable and your obtaining a good results. You go to fast and you'll be splattering polish everywhere. I'm no pro but that's what worked for me. Greg

I have a 35 Formula Fastech that I just did the bow on. It sounds as if the conditions were about the same, just a light oxidation. I was told the same thing so I figured I'd give it a try, because like most everyone, I'm looking for the shortcut. Came out looking great! Much better than I anticipated. I did use a wheel though.

Answer

Hi Greg, Yours is the second positive response I have received, so that is encouraging. Thank you. When you buffed it what speed did you use? I think I will put on an additional coat of wax. I'll let you know how it goes. Lynn

Hi Calvin, Thank you. I have some on order. How did you apply it? I'll probably put on an extra coat of wax, too. I'll keep you posted. Lynn
