Answer Question

Question

I have been asked to paint an older aluminum fishing boat and the owner wants light blue like it was when new. Is there a blue pigment that I can mix with white to get that color?

Asked on 08/23/2018 by Ralph's Stuff from Southern New Jersey

Top Answer

Sorry we don't have pigments for this, the only way to change the color is to mix different colors of the same paint together.

Answer

My background is automotive paint and body. However, I do know that most paint and primers can be tinted. My suggestion would be to purchase a sacrificial quart of the white and take it to an automotive paint store. If you ask the correct questions and maybe offer up a pizza delivery they may be willing to help. The tint they use should work since this appears to be polyurethane. As long as it mixes smooth you should be fine. Have the store weigh the paint and pigment for future use. If more than a quart is needed, make sure you mix all the paint together in a larger can before application. Hope this helps.

Answer Question

Question

My question is simple. Will this paint work good on wooden transom of boat & last or for wood do you suggest another product

Asked on 06/22/2020 by cw from NC

Top Answer

You'll have to prime the woo first with TotalBoat topside primer. Sand primer smooth with 220-grit sandpaper. Remove all sanding residue using a clean, lint-free, cotton rag wetted with acetone or denatured alcohol. Allow the solvent to evaporate completely before painting. TotalBoat Wet Edge would be a better choice for a wood boat.
