Product Details

Propspeed Foul Release Coating is an antifouling paint system for propellers, running gear & underwater metals so slick, barnacles can't stick. With Propspeed, there'll be no marine growth, just a perfectly smooth surface. Any fouling that may attach if the boat is stationary for an extended time falls away when you get underway again. So there's no drag, and no drag means better engine performance, lower fuel consumption & lower fuel costs.

Propspeed keeps underwater metals free of fouling and corrosion for up to 2 years. It's also safer for marine life, because its silicone-based formula contains no biocides. For best results, read instructions carefully, and watch videos before applying. It's also recommended to have a second person to help.

Available in 200ml, 500ml, 1L* & Combo Pack Kits.

Info & Guides

Propspeed Antifouling Paint Means Less Fuel Used, Less Work, More Speed, & More Fun!

Propspeed is an advanced foul-release coating with a super-slick, silicone-based clear topcoat that eliminates fouling on propellers, running gear, and underwater metals. Its copper-free formula provides multi-season protection for boats of all sizes and types—both commercial and recreational—including sailbboats, cruisers, sport-fishers, superyachts, patrol boats, tugboats, trawlers, and ferries.

For Success, Timing is Critical

Propspeed is easy to apply and doesn't require any special equipment, but you do need to read and understand all directions before you start in order to learn the application timing requirements to achieve a proper chemical bond between the Etching Primer and Clear Coat. Proper application helps ensure maximum adhesion, effectiveness, and longevity of the coating.

Before applying Propspeed, please read the Propspeed Application Guide and watch the Propspeed application video.

Before launching, Propspeed requires a minimum of 8 hours to dry. In colder temperatures (40-60°F), allow at least 24 hours drying time before launching. Unlike conventional antifouling bottom paints, the effectiveness of Propspeed isn't affected adversely by sitting out of water for extended time periods in either cold or warm climates. Just be sure to protect any Propspeed-coated areas from damage.

NOTE: 200ml and 500ml DIY complete kits are available for boats with saildrives and fewer or smaller components; the 1L and Combo Pack are recommended for professional use on larger vessels.

* If purchasing the 1L Kit, Propclean Wipes and Propprep metal conditioner (wipes or liquid) are an integral part of the Propspeed coating system and must be purchased separately. The 200ml, 500ml, and combo kits include Propclean Wipes and Propprep Wipes.

For help in determining which kit to purchase, please refer to the Coverage Guide below, or call a knowledgeable JD customer service representative at 800.423.0030.

Top Tips for DIY Application - Planning and Preparation are the Keys to Success!

  • Ensure that the surface is abraded to an 80-grit profile.
  • Clean the surface thoroughly with the blue Propclean wipe.
  • Remove the residue immediately with a clean, dry, white cotton rag. Repeat until there's no residue remaining.
  • Condition the metal surfaces with the red Propprep wipe.
  • Remove the residue immediately with a clean, dry, white cotton rag. Repeat until there's no residue remaining.
  • Propprep is acidic—take extra care when wiping the surface.
  • Apply the Etching Primer as soon as possible.
  • Mix the Etching Primer Base thoroughly for about 2-3 minutes before adding the Etching Primer Hardener, or the system will not work properly.
  • When the Base is stirred thoroughly, add the entire contents of the Hardener bottle into the Base container to ensure the proper 4:1 ratio. Mix thoroughly.
  • Pour into a clean plastic paint tray.
  • This system requires 2 coats of Etching Primer and 1 coat of Clear Coat. The timing of each coat is essential to enable proper chemical bonding between the coats.
  • Apply the first coat of Etching Primer with a brush or roller.
  • Wait approximately 3-5 minutes (at 80°F) to apply the next coat when the surface is dry to the touch (gloved fingertip touched to surface leaves an imprint but does not leave primer on glove).
  • You have 3-5 minutes from applying the first coat of Etching Primer to applying the second coat.
  • The same 3-5 minute recoat rule applies between the second coat of Etching Primer and the Clear Coat.
  • For complete step-by-step details, read the Propspeed System Application Manual before applying Propspeed.
