TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty makes critical bonding applications on polyester laminates easy, strong, and permanent. Its trowelable, thixotropic formula spreads smoothly & won't sag, making it great for fairing vertical surfaces. Polyester Structural Repair Putty is also easy to shape, so it's ideal for radius forming.
Reinforced with long strand milled glass fibers, this high-strength, fast-setting marine bonding putty adds strength & dimensional stability to structural, boat building & repair applications including bedding and tooling. Great for reinforced bonding on hulls, decks & stringers, and multi-purpose bonding on FRP composites, core materials, and wood. Add 1-2% MEKP catalyst based on mass, ambient conditions, and desired working time.
Available in Quart and Gallon Kits that include MEKP catalyst, and 1 spreader.
Technical Specifications | TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty |
---|---|
Application Temperature | 50°F - 95°F |
Catalyst | Catalyze with 1-2% MEKP, based on mass, ambient conditions, and desired working time. More catalyst will shorten working time, but will maintain working time at cooler temperatures. |
Working Time | For a 100g mass, catalyze with 1% MEKP for approximately 15-20 minutes of working time at 70°F (14 drops of MEKP catalyst per ounce of Polyester Structural Repair Putty). |
Cure Time | Dependent on temperature, catalyst amount, and mass of putty. For example, cure time will be 20-30 minutes for 100g mass catalyzed with 1% MEKP @ 77°F |
Weight | 8.9-9.1 lbs./gal. |
Shelf Life/Stability | Approximately 3-4 months (can be longer, depending on storage conditions). Keep container closed tightly, and store in a cool (below 75°F), well-ventilated place. |
Great for Structural Bonding, Filling, & Fairing Above or Below the Waterline
TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty uses a premium resin reinforced with long strand milled glass fibers for strength and impact resistance. In addition to structural bonding, bedding, and tooling applications, it's perfect for filling larger voids and gouges that are too deep for cosmetic fairing compound.
This high-strength polyester putty is engineered for structural bonding, filling, & fairing, not for cosmetic filling and fairing. For cosmetic fairing and repairs requiring a fine finish, use TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound over cured Polyester Structural Repair Putty. Allow the Polyester Fairing Compound to cure, then sand to achieve an extremely smooth surface ready for gelcoat or paint.
IMPORTANT!
TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty will not cure in air, and requires overcoating with an air dry material such as PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), paraffin wax, polyester resin with wax, gelcoat with wax, or TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound, in order to effect a proper cure.Technical Information

I was a bit surprised at first seeing the jelly-like consistency of it. But, after mixing properly and working it into the gaps and smoothing it (roughly) with a rubber spatula, it hardened up rock hard. I sanded the high spots with an 80 grit disc on my drill and was able to fare the whole patch smooth enough to then apply the e-2000 barrier coat on top of it. I used it around the base plate of the strut that holds the prop shaft to the hull. I love the way it all came together! M

Used to fill in around transom drain plug during repair of rotten wood core section. Stuff mixes easy, and has plenty of pot life. BUT, and unfortunately it's a big deal breaker.... This stuff cracks while it cures! Did not seem to matter if I mixed it as instructed, or if I went light on the reactant. It always cracked. It appears the cracks are due to this stuff shrinking as it cures. Does not matter if the polyester is waterproof, because the water will just flow thru the cracks. I had to drill into the cracks in order to open them up enough to inject additional filler. And if any spots were thicker than about 1/2", odds are there was another crack! If you do use this stuff, make sure to build a full layer of fiberglass over any repairs. Do not trust this stuff to keep water out - it's just a gap filler that won't rot, but it's not water tight reliable.
