Info & Guides

Directions: TotalBoat Tropical Extra Slow Hardener and TotalBoat Traditional Epoxy Resin can be dispensed by pouring or using 3:1 Epoxy Pumps (sold separately).

IMPORTANT: If using the pumps, ONE PUMP of TotalBoat Epoxy Resin is calibrated to mix with ONE PUMP of TotalBoat Tropical Extra Slow Hardener. Prime the pumps by pumping until a steady flow of hardener comes out. THESE PUMPS ARE FOR USE WITH TOTALBOAT TROPICAL, AND THICKSET EPOXY KITS ONLY.

Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of any surface contamination. Light sanding is recommended, followed by an oil-free solvent wipe, or a lint-free rag dampened with isopropyl alcohol or plain water to remove dust.

MEASURING: NOTE: THE MIX RATIO IS DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL TOTALBOAT FAST AND SLOW HARDENERS. There are two easy ways to measure: (1) BY VOLUME: Measure THREE parts TotalBoat Epoxy RESIN to ONE part TotalBoat Tropical Hardener, or (2) BY WEIGHT: Measure 100A:28B.

MIXING: Mix for 1-2 minutes, then add any desired fillers, if needed. The catalyzing of TotalBoat Epoxy is an exothermic (heat-producing) reaction. The peak exotherm will vary according to ambient temperature and choice of hardener.

Eye/Skin Protection: Wear protective eye wear, suitable gloves, and protective clothing.

NOTE: This container will not come filled to the top. It contains the calibrated amount of product to work in conjunction with the same size resin container.

Quality Product
By Tim from South Florida

I used this to fill a rotten engine mount. I mixed it with shredded fiberglass to fill the void after cleaning out all the rotten wood. I was able to cut the top of the mount out and power the mixture in till level then cap it with glass mat. I purchased the Tropic mix thinking it would react slower than regular epoxy so it would bond deeper into the existing good wood. The reaction time in 70 degree weather was not much slower than slow hardner when used in this manner but still worked to my satisfaction.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Great for high heat and humidity areas
By BullHippo from Ozark, Al

In southern Al the heat and humidity are terrible ! Trying to lay glass and make repairs can be a challenge. The sun shinning on the layup will heat it and reduce the working time. If the project is very big or has multiple steps, such as ( wet out, apply thickened epoxy, apply glass and wet it out, apply thickened epoxy on top of the glass, wet out the core and apply peel ply on it). All of those steps take time, the tropical kit allows you that time without racing the clock. It is joy to use. If you have ever had a layup start to harden before you are through you will know what I mean. The epoxy takes longer to harden to full strength, I don't bother the layup for a day or two no matter what it is. I don't want to run the risk of damage, I usually weight the cores down with lead and want a thorough bond.

Many steps involved in repair, extended working time is great
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
