Product Details

Epifanes Teak-O-Bello is an easy-to-use protective coating that keeps renewed teak and other hardwoods looking better longer. Its eco-friendly, water-based formula has no toxic fumes, and will not damage the polyurethane or polysulfide caulking used in teak deck seams.

It also prevents weathering, graying, mold, and mildew much longer than solvent-based teak wood sealers and teak oils. In addition to teak decks, Teak-O-Bello is ideal for maintaining the color and beauty of teak railings, furniture, tables, hatch covers, and other items.

This unique, VOC-free, solvent-free coating is available in a 500 ml bottle.

For best results, clean and recondition wood with Epifanes Teak-O-Clean & Bright (sold separately) before applying Teak-O-Bello.

Teak-O-Bello

Rehabbing a 1970 58 Foot Trumpy. The aft teak deck was pretty dirty but not worn out. Cleaned, cleaned it again, did some bleaching then gave it a light sanding. Applied one coat of Teak-O-Bello. They direct you to apply two, I think to get rid of the shading variations. Ran out of product so did not get a chance to do 2nd coat as directed. (30 minutes after the 1st coat) I am hoping that a second coat applied 2 weeks later will come out OK. This product seems great for a semi-protected (indoor) deck. I'm not sure how it will work on exterior teak decks at this point.

Not pleased.

I finally got some time to work on the teak interior of my Pearson 27 last week. I shook well and opened the container and poured a thin, very darkly stained liquid on the applicating cloth. The cloth immediately turned a very dark brown. The whole interior of my boat is a slightly dark, honey color that I really like. Maybe it won't darken the surface very much, so I'll try a panel in the aft cabin that is over the engine compartment. It applied nicely, covered well and was dry when I returned in 30 minutes for the 2nd coat. When I came by the next morning, if found that the dark stain indeed turned my honey teak quite dark. The resulting finish was very even and extremely flat … dusty wood flat. I can deal with the flat, but the color is not how I like my teak to look. Is this finish available in a clear? Any thoughts to getting a soft gloss to it?

I am very likely to use this product again

As with the cleaner, this is the fourth product I have used on the teak deck in my cockpit. It went on easily and while a bit messy was easily cleaned up. I am happy with the finish. The real test will be how long it lasts. Previous products has not made it past three months. This one says to apply annually. If it lasts even close to a year it would be a grand slam. I will be happy with anything beyond six months.

Q: Can I apply Epifanes Wood Finish Matte over Teak-O-Bello?

2 Answers

A: I don't know whether or not you could put the wood finish matte over teak-O-bello but I would think that for the best results it would be advisable to clean the teak-O-bello completely before putting another product on. It would be best if Epifanes would answer this question. It would be nice if there was a sealer that could be put over freshly applied Teak-O-/bello that would make it last longer.

Q: Do I have to sand before application? I have older teak decks, and want to minimize sanding. In the past, I have been using Semco which does not require sanding.

A: As I understand it's very similar you always try a small amount to test - I had stripped all my teak before alloying because had had varnish that needed removing

Q: would love to hear a follow up review after 4 months from Dave of Punta Gorda

A: Overall this is holding up quite well. There are a few spots where either I didn't get enough on there or it wasn't clean enough or something that need to be touched up. However, this is working better than anything I have tried previously.

Q: Will the surface be slippery, or slippery when wet, if using teak that will be walked on?

1 Answer

A: It shouldn't be too slippery when wet, it sinks into the wood, not like a varnish or oil finish.

Q: Will it go over Cetol Teak?

1 Answer

A: Hi Gene - Maybe yes, but I would not - I use Cetol Natural Teak covered with Gloss on my boat teak - it is oil based - use Teak-O-Bello on teak outdoor furniture - both work great but very different look and not sure very compatible to lay one over the other
