TotalBoat Elixir Semi-Gloss Enamel Marine Paint is a unique, self-priming one-part water-based enamel that helps topside surfaces defy the elements in harsh marine environments. There's no magic potion here, just a tough, moisture-resistant, UV-stable, marine-grade formula that prevents mildew, fading, chipping, and peeling, while prolonging the life of new surfaces and restoring beauty and life to old, worn, tired-looking fiberglass, wood, and metal above the waterline.

Elixir's gorgeous satiny semi-gloss finish can also add beauty at home—try it on cabinets, doors, trim, moldings, and baseboards, for an attractive finish that's truly easy to maintain. If it gets dirty, just wipe it down with a little mild soap and water. If the surface gets scratched or damaged, a little prep work and a few touch-up coats of Elixir will make the damage disappear quickly and easily.

Too watery and thin
By Richard the painter from San Juan Islands, A

Verified Purchase

I like the water-based feature, but it is difficult to use on vertical surfaces because it is so thin. Tends to run and drip. Also, coverage is not good--takes three coats where BrightSide would only take two.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Love the packaging
By Tom from Poughkeepsie

A bag of paint- innovative and convenient. Put three coats on Whaler woodwork. Finish seems a little chalky, we'll see how it holds up out in the weather all summer.

Returned for refund
By Peter the Painter from North Carolina

Verified Purchase

The paint goes on as thin as water and does not have any opaqueness to it. Did a couple of areas one on raw plywood another on epoxy coated plywood and decided to return the paint.

I like other Totalboat products and want to like this paint!
By Rob from Boston, MA

Just applied a third coat to the cabin interior (and used a third quart). White covers white but nothing else though it's getting closer with each coat. Low VOC is a big plus for cabin interior work; primary reason I chose this paint. Plan on investing extra time, patience, and material in the project. Totalboat should consider selling it by the gallon with a price break for quantity.

Good Stuff.
By VT Steve from Vermont

I have now done two projects with this paint. Yes, it does take a lot of coats, but they go on quick and set up well. Two of us put five coats on the topsides of a Whaler in about six hours. So far both projects - an outdoor sign and Whaler topsides rehab - are holding up. Soap and water clean up is a breeze and the bags are great. One note is that two bags of product did not match. My bad for not mixing them together. We solved the issue with another quick coat.

Nice finish but not terribly opaque
By Steve from North Kingstown, RI

Verified Purchase

The paint comes in a bag which is fantastic - less mess and no skim-over once opened. Elixer applies easily and dries quickly to a hard, even finish but is not terribly opaque. Even after four coats you can see the spots where I had sanded through to the base wood. The paint is very thin and requires attention to avoid drips. It's best use is as a refresher coat over a similar color.

I would recommend this product for sure
By McBillHawaii from Kona Hawaii

I'm really happy with this paint on the deck my 42 year old sailboat - she's looking pretty close to new and I've been getting some mildly envious comments from neighboring sailboats. It sticks really well, is easy to roll and tip and has the perfect sheen for an older boat - high gloss shows too many of the little nicks and bumps & doesn't look as nice in my opinion. It also has a great "grip" feel under bare feet compared to my friends' oil gloss boats. I'm going to paint the hull next - very confident that it will do well. the bad news is that it will take at least 3 coats to get an even rich tone - the water soluble clean-up makes it a lot easier to do - but def will need 3 coats and the areas where we went 4 coats is even "deeper" looking. You can re-coat every two hours here in Hawaii. Anyway I'm satisfied and think the extra coating downside is worth it. I am also looking forward to touching it up as things happen over the next few years.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
