Didn't need it
By Bugs from Tampa Fl

For my Barrier coat on a pontoon boat I found I didn't need to thin it for roller application. I wasn't sure if I would need it, and thought it was better to have on hand if I did need it. What you do need is an electric drill and paint mixing paddle. The base Barrier coat is very heavy but mixes up well. You add the Hardner in and it's perfect for roller application.

Worked as specified.

Used this thinner on the first coat of primer paint that I needed to put over the fairing compound repair I did to my rudder. (See review on fairing compound). Then I used the primer un-diluted so that I could put bottom paint on the rudder. I was surprised at how hard and firm the primer was. Sanding was necessary prior to bottom paint, but the final repair is very good.

4 stars because they could explain better

This stuff works, works well actually. It's just that xylene works too (for the most part) and they make it sound like you have to buy this thinner. It's expensive in comparison to xylene but, it is better for thinning as it probably has both xylene and something else in it. I think if they were just willing to disclose, you font NEED the thinner, I'd give it 5 stars. I must say every TotalBoat product I've used is good so I'm not surprised this one works very well!

Too Soon To Tell

For the first time in years, my pontoons have pits in them. Others on our canal have the same problem. There is discussion as to whether it's due to electrolysis or an interaction with the copper sulfate our weed treater uses to control algae. I bought this "Barrier" coat to prevent pitting under the waterline. It passed the first test: It stood up to the ToonBrite on the top side of the pontoons without peeling or discoloring. I have used West System's epoxy for a multitude of uses. It provides an impenetrable plastic coating to anything I applied it to. I am hoping the TotalBoat Epoxy, paint-like coating accomplishes the same thing for my aluminum pontoons. I'll let you know in about a year. PS. I've also purchased some sacrificial magnesium anodes for the boat.

I did the job on a day that got hotter by the minute (normal for central ca) so I sadder reducer as the temp increased and had very good results. I am looking for some kind of a spout cap to make it easier to add small amounts to batch. Found some but need to buy 200!!! Sure wish JD would carry these!

Nutshell 9'6" in prime with Total Boat High Build Epoxy Primer.
