Product Details

Pre-Kote Plus is an updated version of the Interlux topside primer DIY and professional boat painters have trusted for many years. This one-part primer and undercoat adheres to most substrates (including metal). Pre-Kote Plus' low VOC formula features improved flow and self leveling properties. It dries faster than what you are used to, and it's easier to sand once dry, for a smooth primer base and an even smoother, better looking topside paint finish.

Apply 2-4 coats via brush, roller, or conventional spray. For the best possible finish, be sure to address surface imperfections prior to priming. Sand between each coat for the smoothest possible finish. Compatible with all one-part Interlux topside finishes, including deck paints and Toplac Plus. Available in quarts and gallons. Each gallon covers ~440 sq/ft.

Info & Guides
APPLICATION AND USE:

Preparation: PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES
In Good Condition: Wash down with a suitable detergent, rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Sand with 220-280 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue Wipe with Brushing Liquid 333 and allow to dry completely.
In Poor Condition: Remove all previous coatings.
BARE WOOD: Sand with 80-180 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting and wiping. Wipe withY2333N.
PLYWOOD: Follow directions for bare wood. Apply Inter-Prime Wood Sealer Clear 1026.
STEEL: Degrease with solvent or suitable detergent cleaner. Gritblast to Sa 2-1/2 - near white metal surface. If gritblasting is not possible, grind the metal surface with 24-36 grit abrasive discs to a uniform, clean, bright metal surface 50-75-microns)anchor pattern. Use angle grinder on small areas. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
ALUMINUM: Degrease with solvent or suitable detergent cleaner. Sand well using 24-120 grade (aluminum compatible) paper. Coarser grades are recommended to achieve optimum adhesion. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry completely. Apply primer/undercoat as soon as possible (within 8 hours).
ZINC/GALVANISED STEEL: Degrease with solvent or a suitable liquid detergent. Sand well using 60-120 grade paper. Clean thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
FIBERGLASS: Wipe a small area with a clean rag that has been wetted with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. While the surface is still wet, wipe with a clean, dry rag. Continue this process until the entire surface has been cleaned. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

Method: Apply 3-4 coats to Steel & Aluminum (Note: for additional substrate protection apply 1 coat thinned Interprotect 2000E prior to application of Pre-Kote Plus). For Fiberglass add 1-2 coats. Apply 3-4 coats to wood. Application of an additional coat of Pre-Kote Plus for all substrates will result in increased level of substrate protection. Depending on the type of roller used, additional coat may be required to achieve the recommended total film thickness e.g. for aluminum 12 16 mils WFT (5.8 7.7 mils DFT) is required. If excessive sanding practice is used then additional coat will be required to ensure substrate protection & achieve full opacity.

To give extra depth of color, blend the final coat of Pre-Kote Plus 50:50 with an approved Interlux topcoat.

Hints
Mixing: Stir well before use.
Thinning: Thinning is not usually required. Depending upon ambient temperature, application conditions and personal preferences, Pre-Kote Plus can be thinned up to 10%. If product is thinned, additional coat may be required to achieve film thickness required to protect the substrate.
Thinner: Reducing Solvent-Brush (Y2333N), Brushing Liquid 333, Special Thinner 216.
Cleaner: Reducing Solvent-Brush (Y2333N), Brushing Liquid 333, Special Thinner 216.
Brush: Solvent resistant standard brush.
Roller: 4mm nap velour roller. Note: If foam rollers are used a lower film build/opacity may be achieved and an additional coat may be required. Ventilation and Humidity Control: Apply in dry, well ventilated conditions.

Some Important Points
Avoid painting in direct sunlight. Do not apply direct to clear epoxy resins. Do not overcoat with 2-component solvent-based products. Not suitable for permanently immersed surfaces.
