I bought a 1998 boat with this item and the sliding plastic cover always opens...is there supposed to be a spring in there that keeps it closed when the light pole is not in place?

I like the idea of your service, but I'm not going to be able to give you immediate help. When the box came, I took it on my next trip to "the cabin" and left it on the boat for spring installation--which has not yet occurred as Minnesota is still snowed under. As I recall, there is a plug on the boat that plugs into the base, but My memory isn't perfect these days. Jim Peterson
