On my can it says wait 10 minutes but no longer than 2 hours. Also it says if you wait longer than 2 hours to reaply. It is very volatile and evaporates quickly.

Answer

Can't let it sit overnight. Setup time for activator is 10 minutes to two hours before applying adhesive. Having said that, I accidentally waited 4 hours for some parts of an airplane canopy and it's set like a rock. If you do wait too long, just reapply new aktivator on top of previously applied aktivator.

Question

What primer do I use on Acrylic hatches when bonding to aluminum?

Asked on 01/07/2016 by Glyn Fricker

Top Answer

This came to my email, not my husband's. He is a metallurgist. I will call it to his attention. Years ago we painted our aluminum mast. The critical thing about the proceedure was timing. The product that was special was Alumaprep. I think that is how you spell it. We have bronze and stainless everywhere except that mast. I know you don't want to set up a corroding situation. I will forward the email to him.

Question

I watched the video, called and emailed Sika Corp with no response. I was told to buy Aktivator 100, 209 D and Sikaflex 295UV to bond a plasitic windscreen to both steel and alum. The primer says noting on the can, the video says wait 10 min for aktivator, nothing regarding dry time for 209D (time to before applying Flex 295). Any chance anyone would know?

Question

what is the most active ingreediant in sika activator?

Asked on 02/04/2012 by Undisclosed

Top Answer

I saw no evidence of any active ingredients. The use of the activator made no difference in the performane of the Sikaflex to seal the window. I finally gave up and used automotive windshield sealer, for significantly less money.
