Answer

I have large hands, so I immediately gravitate to the largest handle it makes sense for me to use. For the #49 and #50, I use a 5 1/4" handle. Additionally, this size is in proportion to the rasp and provides good control. For the 8" wood rasp, I use the next size down, or perhaps the 4 1/2" handle.

Answer

This is the handle i have for my 49 and it works. not the best handle i have ever used. it just works nothing fancy. as for the 8 inch i would use a smaller handle this is a large one.

Answer

Handles I purchased have actual measurement of 5'' x 1-3/8 which are a bit larger than the NIC 1 and smaller than the Nic 0 based on your online catalog. Tang holes are drilled a bit to big on my handles and not as tight on the #49 & #50 as I would like but work. The #49 & #50 rasps are 10' long with a somewhat narrow tang. I would purchase is the NIC 1 today. Hope this helps out. Roy

Answer

I found the handle well priced for what I got. The ferro didn't stay tight. I make my own handles. You have to consider I live in a very dry climate. Patrick

Answer

I have found through the years its best to have a size assortment of several handles so they can be fitted to both the hand and the tang!

It fit the rasp fine, but would be easier to use if a little larger.

It says in the file description: #49 Second Cut, narrow pattern (rasp) half round and tapered. This is a high quality, woodworker, cabinetmaker's wood rasp. It has a narrow pattern and cut edges. Leaves a relatively smooth finish but is rougher than the #50. #50 Smooth, narrow pattern (rasp) half round and tapered. This is a high quality, woodworker, cabinetmaker's wood rasp. It has a narrow pattern and cut edges. Leaves a relatively smooth finish. Often used after #49. Both rasps are made by Nicholson. Designed for use with Size 1 Nicholson wooden handles.
