Product Details

5 or 7 strand wick. So that if the seam is tight you can pull off a strand or two for a better fit. Approximately 75 Feet per 2 oz. Roll.

Best choice caulking for tight planking. For varied planking, keep some Oakum on hand for wide gaps, and Caulking Cotton for medium-space gaps.

Typically, on boat seams, caulking is next covered by a marine paint. Once dry, the remaining space is filled with seam compound (one for above waterline, another for below) before applying final topcoat.

A novel solution
By Rick from Chowan County, NC

We own an old plantation house in North Carolina. There is no subfloor. The original floor boards are the only component of the floor, besides the framinig structure. Old houses move. Wood shrinks and expands based on humidity. In a couple of places we were getting a stream of cold air up through the foor. I didn't want to caulk the floor, or fill it with wood putty, so I was looking for another solution. I bought the cotton caulking wiking string on a whim. Well guess what. IT WORKS! Ive been slowely closing up the worst gaps in the floor and learning as I go. It is not easy, but it works. The living room is warmer. Fewer cold spots with air pouring through. May not be the most elequent solution but again, it works.

Works on old wooden boats
By Boat messer Bob from Door County Wisconsin

It works well to fill thin seams in a wooden boat built in 1915. I use it below waterline and above. I cover it with 7110 seam compound and ablative anti fouling paint.
