Question

Is this material cut resistant from metal, fiberglass or wood that has been broken and distorted?

Asked on 04/30/2014 by John Conley

Top Answer

It's meant to be set in epoxy - very cut resistant.. but it'll fall apart on its own.

Answer

I would need more information to be exact, but let me see if this answers your question. In order to cut this material effectively before it has been soaked with resin you need to put masking or painters tape (preferably on both sides), then cut it. If you try to cut it without doing this using scissors or a knife, it is very resistant to cutting. Once it has resin and dried on say a board, it can be cut with a circular saw.

Answer

Thank you Patrick F: Can Twill Weave be obtained at a width of 24" to 70"? Is this your most cut resistance Fabric?

Answered on 04/30/2014 by John Conley

Answer

This kevlar is very cut resistant. A perfect sharp edge rubbing on it over a long period of time will cut anything. If you have this material when you go to cut it with normal scissors & fail you will see how tough it is. Get a good pair of scissors that will cut kevlar. Clauss has some good ones.

Answer Question

Question

How do I cut this 9 oz. material? My Kevlar shears will cut lighter material but they don't cut this stuff.

I have a pair of Clauss shears with the #18425 on them. They cut it great. So far they still appear to be like new after cutting 10 or 20 feet of the stuff. they have tiny grooves in the blades that make the difference.

I used tin snips

Answer

Best way I found is to put painters tape on the cloth, then cut it. It works with tape on one side, but best on both sides. I cut it with normal shears. Chuck

Question

I need to replace a seat in a patio chair. Can I use this fabric for that? The original fabric is Kevlar.

Asked on 05/26/2013 by Dody Elwood

Top Answer

Dody.... You can try. But the type of weave that I received probably would be difficult to keep as a finished looking seat. As you know Kevlar is quite slippery and I feel that the weave would have to be stabilized with some sort of resin (epox?) to keep the individual fibers from fraying and opening up. ....Bill

Answer

I used this product to build an arrow brake.Wit the cost of arrows, straw backstops are not enough to keep them from getting damaged. Should work fine with with epoxy or some good stitching.
