Pettit Trinidad 75 Antifouling Bottom Paint Customer Questions and Answers

Question

What about this product makes it "designed and priced for the professional"? I am painting my own boat, and want to match what was used before, which was Trinidad 75. Is this OK to use for a DIY job?

I have an O'Day 192 that stays in Grand Traverse Bay from May until mid-October. It had no anti fouling paint when I bought the boat so I purchased what I hoped would be the longest lasting paint. I was a little nervous about that "professional use" tag, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the ease of applying it and its appearance when dry. Just make sure there is plenty of ventilation, preferably outdoors with a little breeze. Wear a tyvek suit and rubber gloves if you don't want it all over you. The boat is now in its second season without repainting and the hull looks great. I don't plan to repaint this next year either. Wonderful paint!

Question

I just received my gallon of Trinidad 75-Thanks is there a special roller and or method that should be used for application?

Asked on 02/24/2018 by Robert from Boston , MA

Hi Robert, Pettit recommends using a 1/4" nap roller, or less for proper drying and application thickness. You don't have to go crazy with applying a lot of paint in one coat, just let the roller apply the paint at the thickness it wants to, and Pettit has always been good and clear that you don't have to apply their paint any thicker than that. No special methods really beyond that. They recommend 1 coat per season of continuous use.

After applying petit Trinidad do I have to keep my boat in the water all the time? Can I take out of water for 3 to 4 months? What is the longest period of time to leave boat out of water without having the paint go bad on boat>? Also what is the best method to apply over a gel coat that has never been painted. (10 yr 0ld hydro ssport) Thank you

This is a hard multi-season bottom paint. We recommend a light scuff with a scotch-brite pad prior to launch to reactivate the paint.
