Interlux Pacifica Plus Antifouling Bottom Paint Customer Questions and Answers

Question

I have had the bottom of our 22 foot sailboat painted with Pacifica in the fall of 2013 and it was in the water all last summer, then in inside winter storage from Nov till early May. Now I checked out the boat and the bottom paint is flaking very small chips. Its fairly easy to clean off but is this normal? Do you have to overcoat every season? I did not have to overcoat with Micron Extra? Is this a problem if I put it in the water as is? May 07, 2015

The directions say to scrap or sand down the lifting areas and paint over. I seen flaking this year but not before. Not sure if the spots were not cleaned properly or something else happen before applying the new coat. I believe this is my third year and have applied two coats each year. Last year I just wash the bottom, this year I sanded the bottom because of the flaking. Hopefully next year I will not need to paint the bottom again.

Answer

Dave, Most likely you did 1 of 2 things wrong, you must mix paint, not a 2 second mix and most likely you did not prep the bottom correctly. I would get back to the original paint by sanding and then wipe with acetone and then reapply the Pacifica Plus. If you scrub the sides of the boat a lot in the summer, you will have to paint the water line each year, but not the entire bottom. Do not put it on heavy or get a build up.

We can ship to a freight forwarder in the US. The freight forwarder must be capable of generating the necessary Hazmat paperwork. JD does not provide that information. Payment must be made in advance via PayPal. You will need to call the support center of email info@jamestowndistributors.com to place an order.

I'm not sure what is already on my aluminum hull. I really do not want to strip the whole underside. What do you suggest for bottom treatment? I'm new to the whole boat thing. So please don't be afraid to use the puppets and crayons in your answer, Thank you

I don't know. This will be my first season using it. I like that there is no copper in it.
