Question

Do you get brush marks or roller stipple with this paint? Or does it level like a good enamel?

Asked on 04/28/2016 by Scott Rosen

Top Answer

It levels fairly well, though not like a topside paint.

Answer

Thanks. I'd be using this on a plywood overhead in wooden sailboat. It's already primed with a 2 part epoxy primer.

Answer

It's more like a latex than an enamel or mono. I just painted a mahog. plywood ceiling in a downeast boat and like the results. I applied 3 thin coats (since gravity was working against me) with a 1/4" nap 6" roller. (after taping and cutting in the edges with a brush) An enamel or mono would have more leveling characteristics for sure. That being said...I had no roller stipple or brush marks but the finish was not like the "glass-like" finish you get spraying awlgrip, mono or enamel. PS I'm in the sign business and have a lot of experience with paint... Cabin Coat is pretty easy to work with.

no brush marks. Beautiful product

Answer

The paint leveled quite nicely for me. Mine was a very rough surface however.

Answer

Definitely get roller stipple, some brush marks. It goes on like a semi gloss latex paint, dried bit smoother and is bit harder, more gloss. The roller stipple actually looks good, like a purposefully slightly textured finish. Hope this answers your question.

We used foam rollers and brushes and it leveled pretty well.

You might get brush marks, however, I did two coats and the results were very good.

Answer

I don't know the technical answer but I have not used a primer with this paint. I just made sure the surface was really clean and dry and that I did a proper job of sanding. The paint is great and I have actually used it on the interior of open El Toro dingys. Jim

Answered on 10/09/2013 by JAMES IRVING

Answer

No priming or sanding needed. Just a quick wash and rinse. Previous paint was oil based. New paint was applied to my cabin four years ago and it still looks good as new.

Answer Question

Question

I have a 1988 Grand Banks and need to repaint the interior. The original paint is Z Spar 11950. There are areas where the paint is damaged up to the point the wood will need to be sealed first from water damage around the windows. The existing paint is a flat finish. Two questions: is this the paint you would recommend and is there pantone color number. The owner's manual says it is Grand Banks beige.

Asked on 08/14/2017 by John from CT

Top Answer

Pettit doesn't make the 11950 anymore, probably the closest would be the EZ Cabin-Coat in the Off White. Custom colors are not available.
