Question

Is the measurement for these Seacocks ID or OD? My through hull fitting has an ID of 1 inch and an OD of 1 1/4 inches. I want to make sure I order the right Seacock to thread onto the through hull. Thank you - Wyeth

I checked this further and was told wrong on the previous answer. All pipe thread measures from ID. So a 1" ID thru-hull uses a 1" ID Seacock.

Answer

Hi Wyeth, Great question! I was confused myself! The size is for the nominal or ID of your through hull. For example our 3/4" through hull was actually 1 1/16" OD, but it fit the 3/4" groco seacock like a glove! Best of luck!

Answer

Pipe thread is measured from inside diameter for seacocks and outside diameter for thru-hulls so if your thru-hull measures 1 1/4 OD, you need a 1 1/4 seacock.

Answer Question

Question

I have 10 FBV seacocks of which several were replaced by Groco in 2008 due to inferior materials. Now I have several more that the brass or bronze stem will swivel with no ball movement. I believe the housing castings are OK and would like to spare the task of removing the entire FBV and only replace the working parts (ball, seals and stem). I would carry replacement guts for 3/4", 1.25" and 2" Please advise? Bruce Kinsey

Thanks Steven. Any chance you have contact information for Groco. All I'm finding is sales agents.

Answer

They look like they could be disassembled, but I doubt it. I think this is something you'd have to ask Groco.

Answer

Bruce- Do you mean they were problematic Groco seacocks that Groco replaced, or inferior seacocks that you replaced with Grocos? I'll assume the latter: Everyone has their own comfort level, but I'd recommend you go the extra mile and replace the entire thing. Partly a compatibility issue. Partly because you never know what's lurking out of sight with an older or suspect or problematic fitting (or the metal it's made from) -- or any sealants or hull material around it. Once you've got the Grocos installed, I suspect they'll last longer than you or I will. I replaced my older through hulls and seacocks, etc., with Groco over the past few years. Lotta work but, I think, well worth it.

Answer

The B V line have bronze handles and I believe are cast in the United States. The F B V Series have the traditional stainless handle and I believe they are made in China. I used the F B V series in my Valiant 37, and are very happy with them. I made backing blocks out of laminated stock, and coated them in epoxy resin to protect from moisture.

Question

Can this be used with a scoop strainer pickup mounted on bottom of aluminum boat. Needing to plumb a bait well, not fond of the idea putting a plastic pump suction through the transom or floor.

Bronze and aluminum are not compatible metals. You can use a Forespar marelon through hull and ball valve. https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=4351
