Makes the whole measurement process easier and cleaner.

I bought a couple of these pumps because I thought my original pump had gone bad. When the new pumps had the same problem I called a tech at JD (Rick, I think). Rick was extremely helpful and suggesting I put the epoxy container in warm water for awhile. Sure enough, after about 1/2 hour, the stuck pump freed up and off I went. The problem, it turned out, was that the epoxy had thickened slightly in the container and was thick enough that the spring in the pump could not reset the plunger. THANK YOU JD!!!

On my first boat I wanted to ensure that everything was as mistake-proof as possible. Using the TotalBoat 5:1 Epoxy Pump kit I was able to complete many preliminary steps and fiberglass the outside of my Payson/Bolger Cartopper with no problems. I like the fact that you can accurately mix small quantities. Several of the initial steps in the project require amounts as small as "just a couple of ounces" of resin. With the TotalBoat pump set, this was easy to get the mix right for a perfect set. I find it useful to put tick marks on the resin jug so I know how much I have used. The resin pump seems to dispense about 1 oz. per pump. It would be helpful to know if that is "exact" or it is actually 0.87 oz or whatever. Follow the instructions and make sure the pump is "primed" for the complete shot at full stroke. The hardener in particular may drip out of the spout resulting in a bit less than expected hardener. I am quite pleased with the results from using the 5:1 pump set.

The material is great. I would like to see the spouts, especially the one on the resin pump, alittle longer. It drips all over the conainer. The hardner is not as bad but it still could be longer to make it easier to hit the pot.

The pump system allows making any size batch of epoxy resin without having to calculate and carefully measure the volumes of resin and hardener. One can also mix the slow and fast hardeners in various ratios within a batch to achieve different reaction times. The only caveat here is to keep the resin/hardener ratio correct with the same number of pump strokes for each.

The pumps fulfill their primary function in dispensing resin and hardener. I would like to see the following improvements: The resin pump is way too slow in temperatures in the 60 degree range. If the size of the passages could be re-sized larger it would be appreciated. I have Tropical, slow,& fast hardener in "A" and "B" size containers but I cannot purchase pumps separately. Make a pump purchase available/optional with each can of hardener sold.
