I ordered more for an extended project

I used this satin paint to refinish my fire place mantel and double front doors in my home. They were varnished oak. Using 3 coats of primer to fill the oak grain and 2 coats of interlux , the final finish is perfect.

I am growing concern that it will not be available forever. It doesn't seem to be around at supply stores when I look for it. The can came beautifuly packaged as all Jamestown Dist. products do, but there was evidence of some leakage in the cans

Questions

1 - 8 of 8 Questions

Q: Why can't you use this product below the water line? I don't need an anti-fouling paint. This will go on a classic 1956, cedar plank, 20 ft fishing boat. Boat is trailered, stored indoors, only in the water one day at a time, a few days a year, used only in mountain lakes - never salt water. I have Interlux Brightside on the topside & it is a beautiful, high gloss, hard paint. The Pettit anti-fouling paint now on the bottom does not shine & is easily damaged in trailering. I think I need an alkyd paint on outside bottom as I've used a lot of 3M 4200 on seams.

A: Sorry, JD does not tint paint. Epifanes yacht enamel can be ordered in custom colors by matching your color to an RAL number or sending in a color sample that is at least 2"" square.

Q: I would like to use this to cover up warn spots on the hull of the boat. Can this be used on the warned spots without a primer? Also, I was told that all Interlux products are oil based paints, but it is never mentions this in the detailed description. Is this paint an oil based product? Of course this is important for painting over existing paint and for clean up of brushes, etc. Thanks for your help.

A: This is an oil based product, and should be applied over an oil based primer. It will look like an obvious patch if applied as a spot repair.

Q: I used Interlux Premium Yacht topside paint for my 8' sabot sailing dingy. In some the area's,I my have put the paint on to heavy in some area's.It was 92 degrees when I applied the first coat. The next day I saw area's where the paint cracked, and when I went to sand ,I found the paint loading up my 220 sand paper. This looks like the paint was applied to thick in some spots, because it's the only place I have cracking. Is there something wrong with this paint?

A: When I roll and brush tip this paint I use a interlux reducer (Thinner) I add about 8% to 10%. Since your sabot is small painting in the shade is best. Your right the paint went on too thick and skinned over. I would recommend 2-3 coats with 12 hours between coats and patients, its good paint.
