Product Details

Interlux Brightside Boottop and Striping Enamel is a one-part polyurethane topside paint formulated for Boottops and Accent Striping that has the ease of use of an enamel with the high gloss of a two-part polyurethane.

Brightside uses Polyflow 4000, a unique polyurethane resin, which yields excellent flow and leveling characteristics as well as incredible abrasion and chemical resistance. Brightside also takes advantage of the latest in ultraviolet technology which insures longer color and gloss retention. Brightside contains Teflon to resist staining and improve abrasion resistance.

BARE FIBERGLASS: Remove all contamination with Fibreglass Solvent Wash 202 or Fibreglass Surface Prep YMA601. Abrade with 120-220 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.

CLEAR EPOXY: Allow three to five days for clear epoxies to cure fully. Remove amine blush by using Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601. Sanding does not remove contamination. Rinse with fresh water. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper and remove sanding residue with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Repair any defects with Interfill Epoxy Filler or Watertite, then sand with 120-220 grade (grit) paper and remove sanding residue. Apply one coat of Epoxy Primekote. Sand and wipe clean with Fibreglass Solvent Wash 202.

BARE WOOD: Sand surface, wipe clean. Apply Pre-Kote, sand surface and wipe clean.

BARE METAL: Sandblast or grind, remove sanding residue. Immediately apply Viny-Lux Primewash 353/354 thinned 25% with Viny-Lux Solvent 355. Allow to dry for 1-24 hours. Apply one coat of Epoxy Primekote. Clean as for Bare Fiberglass above. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Apply one coat of Epoxy Primekote.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: The surface must be clean and dry. Sand with 220 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.

Method Apply 2-3 coats of Brightside following the proper dry times. Sand between each coat with 220 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue with a rag dampened with Brushing Liquid 333. Brightside may be applied by roller and brush using the roll and tip method.

not without primer
By bob from Colorado

Bought this vs. tape for bootstripe. The area was a transition between topside and bottom. It had all been painted a green over a blue, over original white gelcoat. Sanded just enough, but wasn't uniformly white. Put down three layers and still showed the dark blotches through. Went back and scuffed and primed it, and finished with another coat. Total of 5 coats. Wish I had realized it wasn't a paint, but more or a transparent enamel and REQUIRED primer for my situation.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Too thin !
By moreorles2 from New Hampshire

It took 7 coats ( yes it was mixed well) to cover a robins egg blue hull. There is no reason that this had to be so painful. I would try another brand the next time. If they can make house paint that will cover in one coat, there is no reason that they can't do the same thing with bootstripe paint. The quick shipping by JD is phenomenal !
