VC Offshore is a hard, vinyl-based antifouling paint formulated for the serious racer. A unique blend of ingredients help to reduce friction and increase performance in both saltwater and freshwater applications. VC Offshore features a hard, smooth, low-friction, burnishable finish.
VC Offshore can be applied to fiberglass, wood and primed underwater metals (not recommended for application over aluminum surfaces without proper barrier coats).
Not for use in California
VC® Offshore is specially formulated for racing, sailing and performance power boats with a fluoro microadditive for a hard, smooth, low friction surface that can be burnished* to a very low profile. When polished, VC Offshore yields a very hard finish for maximum durability and reduced friction for increased performance. Typically (3) coats of VC Offshore should be applied.
Surface Preparation
BARE FIBERGLASS It is very important that bare fiberglass be properly prepared to prevent delamination of the antifouling paint. Remove mold release wax using one of the following Interlux products, Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601V or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 following the product label instructions. Fill any surface imperfections with Interlux Watertite following the label instructions. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.
BARE WOOD Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Apply first coat reduced 10% with Special Thinner 216.
BARE METAL Sandblast, grind with a 36 grit grinding disc, or sand with 40-60 grit sandpaper. Bring the surface to a uniform, clean, bright metal surface. Remove sanding residue. Immediately apply one coat of Interprotect 2000E thinned 15-20%. Apply 3-4 additional coats of Interprotect 2000E, unthinned.
EPOXY COATED WOOD Prime with Interprotect 2000E/2001E.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES Remove, unless it is vinyl based. Scrape and sand old vinyl coatings which are not adhering, clean and dry surface. Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E.
*BURNISHING: After the final coat of VC Offshore has cured, wet sand with 400 grade (grit) paper, removing any imperfections in the coat. Burnish with fine bronze wool until a shiny, super smooth finish is obtained. Apply an extra coat of VC Offshore if wet sanding or burnishing.

This goes on well with a roller and sands much easier than Baltoplate. I was concerned about this year's packaging- the can arrived a little battered, although not breaking the seal

The gallon can was badly damaged and dented to the point where it was nearly impossible to replace the lid. I was forced to empty the contents into another container.

Have used this VC Offshore for 10+ yrs on my 34PC Formula cruiser on Lake Michigan. Boat sits in slip all week long and only has about a 1/2' of lite mossy grass at the waterline. Take boat out for a run and most washes off. At end of season haul boat and pressure wash the bottom, lite (1/4") scum comes off real easy then in spring I take a small 4" roller and part of a qt of VC Offshore and touch up where the straps or the hydraulic trailer pads touched and it looks like brand new. My hull would out run any other boat in my class, ie: 33+ Sea Rays, Rinkers, Four Winns etc I attribute the great speed to my VC Offshore bottom paint w/ teflon (vs their ablative paints) and my outdrives vs the others w/ v-drives. Excellent product but make sure bottom is clean prior to applying.

I have gotten two years of good service on the VC Offshore coating my boat's belly. It's time for a bottom job and, after two seasons of trophies and winning MYC's Boat of the Year, I wouldn't consider anything else. This coating can be burmished to a mirror like finish and man, is that fast! I would say this is a racer's finish, because you'll need to give it regular bottom scrubbings to keep the scum off. We look for every way to squeeze a little more speed, so we're cleaning the bottom before every race anyway. I'll pay a real pro to spray this on. At this price, you want it perfect. SAIL FAST! (but stay behind me)

I've used this bottom paint since the 80's when it was called Baltoplate. It works well here in the Caribbean, and if you burnish it, it will not discolor at the waterline.

I really like the VC offshore. Works great in colder waters here in the northeast. It requires cleaning once a week to keep growth off but you get a nice smooth bottom. I wouldn't recommend it for warm water area or your non-serious racer. Easy to apply via spray or roller
