Product Details

Ultra-Kote is a hard-film antifouling paint with possibly the highest copper content of any bottom paint at 76%. Its fast-drying, high-solids formula provides excellent long-term protection against organisms such as barnacles and zebra mussels. Designed for maximum performance in moderate to severe fouling conditions.

Interlux upped the amount of cuprous oxide and improved its color stability, making this a great choice for fiberglass, steel, and wood boats in brackish, fresh, and salt waters where severe fouling is the norm. Fast drying formula lets you paint and launch in the same day.

Available in Black, Blue, Red, and Green colors. Gallon size only.

Not for use in California

APPLICATION AND USE

Preparation

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: In Good Condition: Remove loose paint and contamination by sanding the entire surface with 80-grit wet/dry sandpaper. In Poor Condition: Remove all old antifouling paint completely using Interstrip 299E for wood and fiberglass, or by sandblasting to near-white metal for steel.

BARE FIBERGLASS: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Remove any mold release wax with either Interlux Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601V or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 following the instructions on the product label. Fill any surface imperfections with Interlux Watertite, following all instructions on the label.

BARE FIBERGLASS - NO SANDING SYSTEM: Clean the surface following the procedure above. Apply 1 coat of Interprotect 2000E or Fiberglass No-Sand Primer, following the instructions on the label or datasheet. Follow overcoating guidelines for the primer, apply at least two coats of Ultra-Kote allowing for appropriate drying time.

BARE FIBERGLASS - SANDING SYSTEM: Clean the surface following the procedure above. Sand with 80-grit sandpaper, and remove sanding residue completely. Apply at least two coats of Ultra-Kote allowing for appropriate drying time.

BARE FIBERGLASS - BLISTER PREVENTION SYSTEM: Clean the surface following the procedure above. Sand with 80-grit sandpaper, and remove sanding residue completely. Apply Interprotect 2000E to a thickness of 10 mils. Apply at least two coats of Ultra-Kote allowing for appropriate drying time.

BARE WOOD: Sand with 80-grit sandpaper. Remove sanding residue. Apply the first coat of Ultra-Kote thinned 10% with Special Thinner 216 or Brush-Ease 433. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30. Apply two or more coats of Ultra-Kote un-thinned, allowing for the appropriate drying time.

UNDERWATER METALS: Contact Interlux for further details. Do not use on aluminum.

No Barnacles
By Mark from Ramrod Key Fl

I live in the Florida Keys and barnacles are always a problem. I painted the bottom of my 24 proline two years ago. It stays in the water year round at the dock. Not one barnacle when I pulled it out recently. Good stuff.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

I'm sorry,... we LOVE this product..
By Bill S from Texas

I just had to disagree with the reviewer that didn't like Ultra. We are about to repaint after 3 years on our old bottom, in warm South Texas waters. We are just now getting hard growth, and we went algae free for about 2 years. I'm not sure I could ask for more of a paint. For the poster that had a problem, I'd have to think he got a bad batch of paint.

Works great in the Pacific
By Stevie-z from Morro Bay, CA

We used this over interlux interprotect on a sailboat that has a slip in the Morro Bay State Park Marina. Silty, dirty, slow moving, and variable salinity water. Growth around us (other boats and docks) is substantial. We spent the money and use this counter to the recommendations of the local yard. It's been three years now and we finally noticed some plant growth on the tiller. Diver comes on Friday. Yes, I said three years. A+

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

$50/Gal Bottom Paint Works Better
By Lord Fodney from New Bedford Massachusetts

I tried Interlux Ultra on four different boats and had horrible results on all of them. I have used dozens of bottom paints over the last 40 years and I have never seen a bottom paint be so completely ineffective. It is a premium priced product and performs much worse than the cheapest bottom paints. Some International Paints "Interlux" products are good, but this is not one of them, or they sold me a bad lot of 10 gallons. The photos are of 7 months growth in New England waters.

7 Months of New England Growth, with 3 coats
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
