Question

I'd like to know if it will work on fabric curtains? The fabric is 100% cotton and in a marine environment.

Asked on 04/14/2015 by Ginny Racette

Top Answer

Thanks for the heads up on the waterproofing! Fortunately the curtains will be inside but if I should use it on a different item for outside use, the waterproofing tip will come in handy.

It worked very well on plastic and gel-coat, but I never usrd it on cotton fabric. You might try it first on a non visible area of the fabric to see how it reacts before using it on a large portion of the fabric. Good luck with it!

Answer

Thanks Thomas. I'm looking for something that I can spray on new curtains to prevent mold. Perhaps this is the product I need.

Answer

Not too sure about cotton. I used it on Sunbrella and it worked great. The underside of my top would milldue because it was closed up a lot. Applied this at the beginning of the season after cleaning the top and it was fine all season. Just a note if you use it on a top you will need to water proof the outside after cleaning and this treatment. I found out the hard way. Don

I'm not sure if you can use it on fabric. Why don't you contact 3M?

Answer

I have no idea if it will work on cotton. It has worked very well on the topsides of my wooden boat here in Georgia.

Answer

We live in the southeast corner of South Carolina, within a couple miles of the coast. We have a fair amount of humidity. Our screen porch faces a wet land that provides heavy shade. There is little to no direct sunlight into the screen room. The spray was effective at reducing the progress of mold/mildew on our seat cushions which are made out of sunbrella, that isn't suppose to mold. The spray reduced the frequency that we had to clean the cushions...we made it through an entire season before we had to take the covers off the cushions and clean them.

Question

How about use in bathrooms? Shower stall?

Asked on 10/20/2014 by Undisclosed

Top Answer

Not sure about that. Used it as directed on my boat top. The underside mildewed heavy by mid summer in recent years. Applied the spray this spring and no mildew through the whole season.

I started using this product when it was marketed to the public for bathroom use, so yes it works there. I haven't tried it on grout, but I have used it on my ceiling to prevent mold growth from shower steam.

Answer

Yes, this will work for bathroom shower stalls. Thank you.

Answer

Worked very well on wooden topsides in Georgia for nearly two years, but I've not tried it in any enclosed spaces.

Answer

I have used many 3M products for over 40 years. I purchased this because I own a 25 ft Crest tri-toon pontoon boat with white vinyl seats and couches that mildew terribly. My experience with this product is that it is totally ineffective. That being said, yes, it is safe to use on vinyl boat seats.

Answered on 10/07/2013 by MCDIARMID GRAVELY

Answer

I used it on our new interior fabric cushions, and it has worked fine. I did not use it on vinyl, but it seems mild enough that I think you can rely on whatever 3M says it is safe for.
