I purchased 6 of these and they didn't last five minutes. There junk. Don't waste your money. The came undone and made a mess of things.

Good to use if you run out of nonskid additive!

These come in handy if you run out of non skin additive because they produce a bubbly furry rough surface. They are super cheap and made of cardboard and water dissolving glue so they fall apart and ruin the paint job. Good luck getting paid for any job these were used on you will be lucky if they don't sue you.

total junk

The foam started to come unglued from the core almost right away. It gets progressively worse and you end up with a bulgy, floppy thing leaving the worst roller marks you can imagine. This was just as I started rolling on a kayak, not even a large area. I have used and re-used the other economy brand and never had a problem, even after keeping it in the freezer between coats. If possible I would give it ZERO stars. This is my 6th boat project. Never Redtree again.

Better rollers at Home Depot

These rollers work fine for large areas, but can't be cut because they come apart very quickly. They are rigid and the foam is thin, so if there are irregularities in the surface they don't cover well. I found that the 6"" dense foam rollers from Home Depot were better for epoxy and polyurethane paints. For enamels, the HD rollers are not recommended because they come apart after a little use. Maybe the Redtree rollers work OK with oil based enamels.

Good Roller

Recently used these rollers to paint my Whaler 13' with AwlGrip. They work fine for the topcoat, but separate after a while when used with the 545 primer.

Great rollers [...]

[...] I use these to coat large photographic canvas prints. They work superbly - cover quickly and evenly.

Questions

1 - 1 of 1 Question

Q: Do these work good for applying gelcoat?

1 Answer

A: Used them with Interlux Perfection with some success. Cut them in half and use on a smaller roller. The problem with any roller with a blunt end is it will leave a thicker line of paint at the ends, which one can never completely roll out. Hence I now use foam roller from one of the paint stores, with a ROUNDED end. Works better on doing hulls and topsides and last longer on 2 part products
