APPLICATION AND USE:

Preparation:

Aluminum & Underwater Metals: Sandblast or sand with medium grade (grit) emery cloth to a bright metal finish and wipe clean. Apply one coat of Interprotect 2000E that has been thinned 15-20% with Reducing Solvent 2316N. Apply the Interprotect the same day as blasting or sanding. When the Interprotect 2000E is thumbprint tacky apply the first coat of Micron CF. Apply 2-3 coats of Micron CF following the proper dry times.

Factory Finished Aluminum: Prime with Primocon.

Bare Fiberglass: It is very important that bare fiberglass be properly prepared to completely remove the mold release wax. This will prevent delamination of the antifouling paint. Begin by scrubbing the surface thoroughly with a stiff brush using soap and water to remove loose dirt and contamination. Flush with fresh water to remove the soap residue and allow to dry. Remove mold release wax using one of the following Interlux products, Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 following the product label instructions. To be certain the contamination has been removed, run water over the surface. If the water beads up or separates, repeat cleaning process. When the water sheets off, all contamination has been removed. After the surface has been properly cleaned, follow one of the application systems below.

No Sand System - Apply one thin, continuous coat of Interprotect 2000E or Fiberglass No-Sand Primer.

Sanding System - Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue and wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

Bare Wood: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Apply first coat reduced 10% with Special Thinner 216. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30.

Previously Painted Surfaces:

In Good Condition with Pacifica or Trilux 33: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue.

TBT Copolymers: If these coatings are more than a year old, wet sand the surface with 80 (grit) grade paper to a clean, firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue. Apply 1-2 coats of TBT Sealer. Sand surface with 80 grade (grit) paper to a clean firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue.

Non-TBT Copolymers: Apply 1 coat of Primocon.

Hard Antifoulings: Sand surface with 80 grade (grit) paper to a clean firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue. Apply Micron CF.

In Poor Condition: Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E. Sand and wipe clean with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.

Steel: Contact the Interlux Technical Service Department at 1-800-468-7589 for full information.

Hints:

Thinner: Special Thinner 216.

Thinning: Do not exceed 10% maximum.

Great Paint
By Mike from Chesapeake Bay, Virginia

Verified Purchase

The paint itself is excellent paint. I use it on a 37' sailboat that is regularly raced and cruised. It holds up well through the season and tolerates light monthly hull cleaning very well. Availability of green has been an issue the last few years, but Jamestown has come thru each year. The only downside, and the reason for only 4 Stars, is that I've had significant shipping damage to the 1 gal containers the last couple years. SEVERE denting of the cans and can lid seals have occurred making re-closure of a can almost impossible. Putting the cans on a paint shaker has been very risky. Fortunately, none of the cans have actually broken open or leaked during shipping, but Jamestown needs to do a better job packing the 1 gal containers to prevent the damage that is occurring. They used to ship as singly packed cans, with styrofoam top/bottom inserts on each can, two cans to a case, but that is no longer done. Now it is simply two cans in a box with a little crushed paper packing in a 2nd "outer box". No amount of labelling will prevent the handlers from damaging the packages!

eco friendly choice and copper free
By Rick B from Alabama

One gallon of Micron CF provided two good coats of bottom paint, below the waterline, for my Catalina 22 sailboat. Excellent paint to work with. Also, the Shell White color looks great.

Interlux Micron CF red has changed color
By Joe from Hull, Massachusetts

Overall, I like Interlux Micron CF. One important note. The red used to be Fire Engine Red. Interlux has changed the color to more of a maroon. The manufacturer states you can get more than one season out of a bottom job if you apply two coats to the entire bottom and a third coat to the waterline. Thus far I have not been able to get more than one season out of Micron CF, reason being end of season pressure washing to remove bottom crud removes a fair amount of the paint.

This is the new version of Interlux Micron CF. The red is far more subdued. More like a Back Cove red.
Comparison of Micron CF red, side by side. Old recipe on the left, new recipe on the right. Nothing on the cans indicated the difference.
This is the old version of Interlux Micron CF. It was fire engine red.
