Great product

I was looking for an anti fouling paint that I could use both on my boat and the outdrive, so anything with copper was ruled out. I do my boating on the Great Lakes, so I tried Hydrocoat for a couple of seasons on the hull with Krypton on the outdrive. I found that the outdrive was always cleaner than the hull, so I decided to use Krypton for everything.

Yes I would buy this again

Good coverage and it's exactly what I needed. Use lots of PPE as it does have a strong odor when applying. Follow the directions. Everything was shipped with my order.

Smooth paint…

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the bottom paint was to stir and apply. I've used bottom paint annually for well over thirty years and this product was the easiest to mix and roll on.

Great product - used for several seasons.

The new to me downeast lobster yacht had this on it when I purchased the boat this spring and I elected to recoat with same product. Having never used before, I followed instructions carefully - sanded with 80 grit, wiped bottom with TotalBoat brushing thinner, then rolled on - came out really nice. The green is a brilliant green, looks so nice even got some great comments just after it was completed. Will definitely use again - minimal growth on boat from last year's application plus the way it went on.

I'm new to Krypton this past year. I will use it again.

My boat is in Rhode Island. The area I keep it is brackish and a high growth area. I'm happy with Kypton. I had previously used Seahawk's Cukote. I have the bottom cleaned three times a season and my diver complained about the amount of slime and crud on the bottom each time. Not so with the Krypton - he said ""not bad!"" after each cleaning. One of the best. The Krypton went on easily enough. I also applied it to my running gear. No hard growth. Color (Blue) still looks sharp after hauling and bottom washing. It did ablate - light sanding in spring and I will be ready for another coat. I do splash a little thinner in the tray to ease the application.

Dries way too fast.

Need to switch solvent in this bottom paint from mineral spirits to Naptha/Xylene. The current solvent flashes off way too fast. Paint dried in roller pan, skinned over, peeled up and stuck to the roller and then got in the paint job. I was painting in cold weather. I did a side-by-side comparison (same day) between this product and Interlux's Pacifica Plus. In the future, I would rather pay extra and use Interlux Micron CF or Pacifica Plus because it is much nicer to apply. Thank you.

Questions

Q: Hello I have a 41 Hunter DS and will use the Total Boat Krypton Ablative anti-fouling hull Paint in Blue. I thinking 2 gallons should do it. I am not sure which Anti fouling Ablative Hull paint was used by the previous owner. But from the appearances it looks worn out with bare patches and looks like it was an Ablative Hull paint in Black I am also asking what prep work would you recommend before I apply this paint? I sail out of Safe Harbor Cowesett RI and would like to pick this up your shop. Is that possible? Thank You.

A: Hey there. Yes, Krypton can be used on outdrives and other underwater metal parts, but it must be primed first with an epoxy primer. We recommend Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat for this.

Q: Will Krypton last more than 1 year in brackish water?

1 Answer

A: It's hard to say. Whether it's brackish or salt really makes no difference in longevity. Since it's an ablative paint it really depends on how much water flows across the hull. The more you use it the faster it will wear off. I have heard of people getting more than a season out of single-season paints but you are generally better off recoating it annually.

Q: can you apply krypton bottom paint over freshly painted micron csc copper bottom paint

1 Answer

A: Hey Michael. To apply Krypton over Micron CSC, make sure that the Micron CSC has been cured for at least 7 days. Sand with 80-grit sandpaper, then wipe the surface clean with clean cotton rags dampened with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100 or TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep, changing rags frequently, as needed, before applying Krypton antifouling paint.

Q: Can TotalBoat Krypton be used on bronze propellers and stainless shafts that are have been coated with Pettit Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier

1 Answer

A: Yes they can but if you look around the boat yard you won't see many props with paint on them. The cavitation tends to wear the paint off.
